think the issue here is that even if they had gotten the obligatory "not paid" interviews, it still doesn't counter the people who were paid. It doesn't work like that.
Put one bullet in a Colt 45 revolver and pull the trigger 6 times while aimed at the head of your neighbor. Does the wife of your neighbor call the police to complain about the 5 times nothing happened but a click?

The way the 4 were describing it, it was commonplace and everyone knew it. If they described the payments as being really covert, than others' claims that it was all BS doesn't carry much wieght...they wouldn't have known. According to the 4, the other players SHOULD have known. So either the 4 scorned former Auburn players are lying, or the other players are. We have the luxury of deciding for ourselves. The average viewer saw only those making claims that they were paid, hearing nothing of the others disputing it, and also heard nothing of what the 4 players might have been motivated by.

What I thought...I mean I had 32 and 34 on Math and Science respectively but mid to upper 20s for English and Reading. Still came out with a 29, but hence the reason for majoring in engineering
Still a nice score though
Left brainer...oh, no. You and I couldn't even carry on a conversation. Your world is far too symmetrical for me.

Dude,
You realize you're arguing with people that aren't gonna change their opinions regardless as to the validity and rationality of your claims right? Any rational person realizes that the HBO piece was anything but journalism. However, this is the SEC Rant. Reason disappears when you click on this forum's url.

Why would a bama homer leave Tuscaloosa to go to school in Missouri?

That doesn't mean that Auburn hasn't stepped in it, though.

I'll ask you a question I posed the other day. Most agree, yourself included, earlier in the thread.. that players are paid at every level and most likely at all schools. If that's the case, why so defensive when some of those players come forward and why "must" they be lying when other players come out against them? For the blanket statements other players make about "nobody" got paid, it'd be more likely they are lying.

quote:I think 2 of the players are full of shite, one might be and I think the other is probably telling the truth. I never said all programs paid players. My gripe is that while those 4 would not name anyone of give any specifics (time/place), many players and others named these players in particular and said they were full of shite. True or not...you tell both sides. When you watch a true crime type special, they interview the prosecution and the defense so that you, the viewer, can take it in and decide who you believe. If they only interviewed the prosecution, everyone would appear guilty and vice versa. That's my gripe with the way HBO handled it and even though I honestly doubt that this guy who I guess may or may not be a Bama fan-did this intentionally to harm Auburn, it is an interesting intersection of factors.

Dude,
you just summed up 99% of the content of the rant. You are on it too. This is where you say "touche".

I'm sure they'll go into great detail when discussing the matter with the NCAA.

Where do you guys get this stuff? He spent his childhood/teen years in Birmingham, NOT Tuscaloosa, and his major was business, NOT journalism.

From the OP:
Sounds like he really thought he was going to be a sports journalist when he picked his college
quote:
It was in Alabama, as a teenager with a love of sports, that Bernstein coincidentally found his way into sports television. As a young boy, Bernstein sold refreshments and souvenirs at Rickwood Field and Legion Field. After befriending an ABC Sports technician, he learned that ABC frequently hired production assistants and runners. In the years that followed, he drove though out the South working college football games, Wide World of Sports, Auto Racing and Golf. By the time Bernstein reached college, he was traveling 35 weekends a year for ABC sports.

So, the whole reason you come here is to read and share opinions with other people that you believe never have any reason?
Sounds reasonable.

A debate is waaaaaay more interesting to me, even if you know you aren't going to sway anyone, than having a conversation with a bunch of people that never disagree with each other.

Also from the OP, when he decided a few posts later to repost the article and NOT omit the part where Bernstein didn't go to UA at all. (would have invalidated his entire premise)
quote:
Bernstein holds a BS/BA degree in Business from the University of Missouri and lives in Larchmont, New York with his wife Jane and his three children.
