Seriously. It would take a truly dumpster fire of a program to lose to LSU.

I think Steele is a pretty good DC and would be happy to keep him (in our present set up). but I thought he was pretty smart. I guess going to auburn proves I was wrong. the gus bus is in trouble.

Steele is experienced, knowledgeable, a good recruiter by all accounts, has some maturity, and is intense and driven, perhaps too much. He is a good choice for DC at Auburn.

At the same time LSU may be better without him. He was the whipping boy, odd-man out on the LSU staff, and he was semi-undermined on the defense by subordinate coaches that owed nothing to him.

Watching the secondary mope around and body-language indicate their rejection of his schemes told me the inmates are running the asylum. Someone, team members or coaches, were not on the same page with him at all.

Why he left LSU is easy to guess.

1. No security or tenure at LSU;

2. The prospect of a pretty bad defense in 2016 because of the recruiting and personnel he inherited;

3. Friction within the defense ranks, inability to run his program because of uncertainty with O.

4. A low-ball LSU "counter offer" which did not meet the offer from Auburn. In short, it was insulting.

5. Got tired of the sniping by people who know little about football or defense, especially the vocal insulting rump of fans on Tr.

6. Louisiana "culture" remained foreign to him. Truth, it is foreign.

7. Money goes further in Alabama and his brother is at Auburn. Fans at Auburn are more knowledgeable about football too.

Now the question will be what LSU will do. All assistant coaches are looking over their shoulder. None have a contract beyond next year. The OC doesn't even have a contract for next year. I predict an internal hire, possibly O for DC. It will be interesting to watch.

you think what he's inheriting at Auburn will be better?

he didn't deserve what LSU was paying him, much less what Auburn was offering. But if that's what Aubunr thinks he's worth, so be it. We'll take the $500k check
