This. I read that the team gave up something like 44 sacks last year. He got beat on for sure.

It was so bad fans of other teams complained about how our line play was hanging him out to dry.

How do you measure college qb greatness? I generally look to titles and hardware. In his one year so far he won an SEC title, SEC offensive player of the year, and SEC freshman of the year. I'd say that's great, but what do I know

All those accomplishments and yet a lot people think he might not finish the season as the starting QB

I think most would agree that Austin Allen has great tools for a QB. Good size, strong arm, throws an accurate ball, and he is willing to stand in the pocket and take a shot to complete a pass.

Ya, it is great seeing him get the respect he deserves. Even in our losses and blowouts, I think the opposing team/fans could see he was doing all he could out there. Didn't get much help at times.

I enjoy good QB play anytime I can get it. and Arkansas always seems to find the prototypical pocket QB I'd give my left arm to see at LSU. I sure hope Coach O can find at least one of those guys.

According to the coaches and associated press, he was. Admittedly, I didn't take into consideration the illustrious minds tRant and the poll that they conducted, so I guess the jury is still out. Based on that, I suppose it would have been Josh 'the next Dak' Dobbs or Chad 'machine gun' Kelly, it's a shame that the coaches and AP must have been watching a different league.

Why cant Bama fans just admit that Hurts isn't a great QB?

They can't even admit that Alabama isn't the best at everything football at any given time. It gives many of their lives meaning and purpose.

We have been fairly fortunate for awhile now. Arkansas isn't great at producing football talent but it seems to carry its own weight for the most part when it comes to QBs.

He passed for over 2,700 yards, ran for almost 1,000 more, completed almost 63% of his passes, scored 36 combined touchdowns, all while throwing just 9 interceptions - as an 18-year-old true freshman.

ETA: And to those who say, "Well...anyone can dink and dunk." You do realize that's what Alabama's been doing at the QB position since we started this run, don't you? Wilson, McElroy, McCarron, Sims, and Coker were all primarily dink and dunk throwers.

Are you really trying to convince people that Hurts didn't cost Bama the title game?

Yet really struggled against the better teams he played, not exactly the measure of a "Great QB". All we're saying is he isn't great, or wasn't last season. Was pretty apparent when he played teams like Washington, Clemson and LSU.

Against top 50 defenses here were his passing numbers:

LSU: 10/19(52%), 107 yards, 0 TD/1 INT

Auburn: 27/36 (75%), 286 yards. 2TD/2INT

Florida: 11/20 (55%), 138 yards, 1TD/ 0 INT

Washington: 7/14 (50%), 57 yards, 0TD/O INT

Clemson: 13/31 (42%), 131 yards, 1TD/ 0 INT

Average

56%, 144 yards per game, 0.8 tds, 0.6 ints

He is a great athlete that can run. But he was horrible at throwing the ball against a defense with a pulse. He may improve, but I just dont see it. Bama as a team will be fine either way
