Also a sign of self sabotage. He gets close to the pinnacle of success and self destructs. He did it at Alabama and now Ole Miss.

Which just tells me that even 19 year old college athletes have better media discipline than this 50 year old man.
You’re delusional if you think this won’t affect the team’s focus.

I've had a long career working for large and smaller corporations. I founded and ran my own company for ten years before selling.
One thing I've learned along the way is you're generally better off working with a group of trusted partners in a smaller company than taking the bigger dollars at a large, soulless corporation and allowing your ego to play too large of a role in your decision. There are always challenges, and you need to be with good people in order to navigate those challenges.
My father used to call those "men you can ride the river with." You could trust them in rough waters.
Coaching may be somewhat different, but the principles here are the same. He's not with one of the power programs, but he is at a school where he can consistently win and be with people that will truly value him and work with him during down periods. He lives in a charming community. He makes more than enough money. There's no reason to leave other than perhaps his ego. That's a poor basis for sound decision making.

The past 15 years or so....this has become a really sordid business.

What a bad example to use haha. Al Davis wanted Jamarcus Russell, Lane Kiffin wanted Calvin Johnson. All you need to know about that.

I honestly hope he stays at Ole Miss. I don’t want this drama in future seasons about him doing the same thing to LSU.

I don't get why it would be bad for him to entertain or even accept another job offer before the season is over. Dan Lanning accepted the HC position at Oregon before competing in the playoffs with UGA. He stuck around until after the playoffs before starting his new gig.
Employees provide 2-weeks notice all the time, as well. There's a time in which you've accepted a new position, potentially even with a new company, but still have to perform the job you are in.
Accepting another job right now could complicate matters with his team as they are looking for a playoff run, but it's not unheard of.

This is dumb. Why is him entertaining other jobs worse than every other coach doing it?
Do you have any comparison of a coach in the middle of a potential championship run having his agent/wife courting other offers (or at the very least using it as leverage) behind the scenes but in a pretty public manner? If so, did they get a pass?
And like it or not, actions are not judged in a vacuum. Your personal history and public behavior will be used to judge those actions.

There are no “rules” against it but Lanning was a coordinator. Customarily a head football coach does not entertain (at least publicly) offers until the season is finished. Of course Lane is bigger than college football so traditions and customs don’t apply to him.

I read your post and immediately thought what a dumbass. Then I saw you are a Miss St fan. Your post checks out.
Out of curiosity can you post just a few names of coaches that were ranked high and in NC contention and/or playoff bound? You know… since so many coaches do what he is doing.
Given the circumstances, the ranking, and playoffs pending the list is non-existent. Good lawd.., you extra dumb.

All this saga has done is prove to me Lane still has a lot of maturing to do. While I love the idea of lane the football coach, I think there’s a lot to be leary of. I’m not against him at LSU, but I don’t know that I’m as excited as the rant will be.
I understand working back channels, but I think this is all very poor form in the middle of a playoff season.

I’m not gonna defend Tenner a whole bunch in here but be honest. It’s not as easy winning at Tennessee as it should be at Bama or at SoCal. In state resources are a huge advantage. Or at least they were when Lane was OC at Bama and head coach at USCw. Tenner doesn’t necessarily have that luxury

Keep coping. It’s admirable.
For the record, I’m an LSU fan who doesn’t believe for a second Lane was ever coming here.

how do you get that from what i said? LSU and Miss hate each other...it's fun seem them stress while having the best season they have had in most of the posters on here lifetime
Making fun of someone for doing something they should have done is stupid, not hate filled. Laugh at them for Lane leaving if you want but laughing because they paid what they should have to their coach is stupid.

Eh, it’s a new era in college athletics. If this is JUST an attempt to get more money from OM, it’s shitty. If there’s legit interest to move to UF or LSU, I can’t fault him.
Players opt out, hit the portal. The logic was that if coaches can do it, why not players. I think it’s flawed, but whatever. There’s such a high demand to start recruiting as early as possible. You can’t wait on a coaching search either.
I don’t like it, and it sucks for OM regardless of how this plays out, but it’s the nature of the business today.

Seems silly to jump from a good situation right now. Especially considering his history.
Lane is still relatively young and has plenty of years available to coach.
Don’t know how long the extension is for, but he could be better off staying and re-evaluating in 4 years.
