Truly amazing that Florida managed to come in at #10 considering they've only been playing since 1990.

There's nothing to melt about. It's the AP list of the most recognized teams in the AP. It is absolutely not a list of the top 100 teams by any reasonable criteria.

Case in point: You get no points for a conference championship, no points for wins. You get 2 points for EVERY WEEK you are ranked #1. For 1992, Alabama received 10 points as the national champions. Miami received 18 points for being ranked #1 in 9 of the weekly polls. Miami received almost the equivalent of TWO AP national championships for a season where they stayed #1 all year before getting their arse kicked.

If you want to know which teams have been ranked the most highly and consistently, there you go. That's all it tells you.

I'm surprised Bama is only #4. Probably had some AP ranking droughts pre Bear and post 1995.

We're number 4 because we have been ranked less often/not as consistently #1 as the other three. The criteria is spelled out - it's about AP rankings, nothing more. Nothing to get upset about.

sort of true. Our first "official" conference title was in 91 but contrary to popular belief our history before that is far from trash. We had a Heisman winner, sugar bowls, and a good number of successful seasons back in the day. We were obviously no Bama, Tennessee, or uga, but we were NOT garbage. Just intermittently.

I can feel the down votes on the way XD

Its a pretty solid methodology. But AP titles should have counted for more.

OSU has an amazing history, but Bama is superior.

I think it comes down to opinions when you're trying to figure out the top 4-5 between Bama, OSU, Oklahoma, USC, and Notre Dame. Their blood is the bluest of the blue.

I think they should take out the 2 points for being ranked #1 in the weekly polls. That is the weak spot in the criteria. It gives too much weight for a team that might have been shown to have been ranked too high for long stretches of the season.

Mississippi State received almost as many points for 4 weeks at #1 a couple years ago as a team which won the AP title.
