I think people would be more understanding of a noble ideal than the whole, "South Will Rise Again" message. War Eagle originated in the Civil War so it can be done.

As did Alabama's "Rammer Jammer, Yellow Hammer...". Troops from northern Alabama wore yellow ribbons around their torso. Their tenacity in battle earned them the nickname, The Alabama Hammer.

How did the segregated SEC fare against other integrated teams back then?

Read a book about integration on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Bear Bryant said that right after his all-white team got dismantled by integrated USCw that he immediately began to recruit black players

It wasn't needed. They could have left it at Ole Miss finally having their first black ASB president and that great progress had been made. But they had to let people know there are still ghosts of the past lingering.

And as I've already stated, the myth around that game is so massive that it's usually lost to history that Wilbur Jackson was already on the team in 1970.

Felt forced.

Not to mention, her acceptance into Phi Mu was rather surprising. To most of Phi Mu. That was Dan Jones and Lauren Childers.

One of the most misunderstood stories about Bryant. The team was already integrated. Wilbur Jakson was a freshman in 1970. However, he was ineligible under NCAA rules on freshmen at the time. There were also multiple "test cases" of African-American walk-ons as early as 1966.

When Alabama played USC in the Los Angeles the next year (1971), an African-American JuCo transfer in John Mitchell was a big part of the win.

That makes sense because I can't find any instances where a segregated SEC team even played an integrated team. Were the SEC teams even allowed to play against an integrated team? I don't think Pistol Pete ever played against a black player in college.

i mean i don't know all the details on the phi mu thing. But, it usually takes some sort of "movement" inside the sorority to get a black chick in.

My ex was a tri delt at LSU and they did something similar. Plus the chick was actually hot.

I get why they put it in. Obviously the are spoon-feeding the audience that ignorant people that say dumb racist shite still exist at Ole Miss, but as a OM fan/alum I could've done without it. Racism is everywhere.

The way it was present seemed kind of necessary, paraphrasing:

"I'm the only African member of her sorority, I'm the first African Amercian student body president, and by the way, someone slurred me on campus".

It just made the current state of OM look bad and it pisses me off

Alabama played a more inter-sectional schedule after 1971. So that would make sense. But I'm not completely sure. Bowl matchups with Missouri and Nebraska in the 1960s might have brought those matchups.

And a history lesson few know. Who was the last all white national championship football team?

None other than DKR's University of Texas at Austin 1963 Longhorns.

On Sept. 25, 1971, the LSU team traveled to Wisconsin, where they were treated very harshly. As they made their way onto the field, the team had to wear its helmets going out of the tunnel, as they were pelted with bottles and various trash by the Wisconsin Badger home "fans". Some of the "bad" treatment of the team was supposedly due to LSU having no black players. Maybe Wisconsin fans would have treated LSU in this manner anyway, but there were signs in the crowd later shown on tv and newspapers referencing LSU's all white "racist" team.
