I blame jiffy lube.

Why?

They gave the creator of ESPN the money to when he pitched them the idea. He was a former employee way back when.

I wander how many ranters watch ESPN 3+hrs a day vs. ranters that listen/watch Dan Patrick, Jim Rome, or any other ex-ESPN ppl or alternative sports programing..I'd be very interested to find out.

She's also the writer who wrote back in 2005 intimating that Auburn's team chaplain was paying players. Which has never been proven either.

So I have read here and other sites that she butted heads with Lowder and the BOT back in her day as a sports writer for the Plainsman...and that Lowder shut her down? What is the story there?

No flame/troll....just curious what the deal was?

I see this got stickied. I'm guessing It's bringing in traffic and driving up revenue. Chicken should give AU fans VIP status for making him rich.

Not sure what the back-story is between them. Never knew the back-story between Lowder and Paul Davis either, but the man knew how to piss off journalists obviously.

Don't care. I seriously doubt the ncaa hitches their wagon to this story...especially with the palyers pubilc refuting it.

Are you part of the smoke/fire gang, the once the ncaa gets there they don't leave 'till they find something, or just someone who believes whatever he's told without digesting it and thinking critically?

Article about players debunking what was in the Roberts piece.

LINK

Multiple quoted ex-Tigers required much less verbiage to swiftly condemn how their remarks were used contextually in response.

“I can’t,” said former defensive back Neiko Thorpe, asked to make sense of the report as one of six former Tigers quoted. “I’m just trying to clear my name up and let Auburn fans and Auburn nation know the things that were said in that report were not my words.”
------------------------

“She explained to me she was doing a story on Mike McNeil, and basically it was a story trying to be good information about him, just telling what a good person he was,” Thorpe said. “She told me she was just trying to do a good story on Mike – a character story, letting people know what kind of person he was.”

Thorpe – who said he hasn’t kept in touch with McNeil while focusing on his NFL career – denounced Roberts’ use of multiple quotes.

Cheating allegations aside, who thinks McNeil is innocent?

Just a choir boy that got caught up in the thug culture at auburn and turned evil. He shouldn't be held personally accountable for his actions.

I don't. I don't doubt that he is probably a good kid, raised in a good home. But I believe he was hanging around the wrong type of guys, which seemed to be the norm instead of the exception, and made a very bad decision.

Unless she does have tapes, this will eventually wash down the drain. The NCAA has no subpoena power,so there is no legal way to access the grades of these players or take legal depositions. And if AU is guilty, rest assured that massive damage control is going on now & any records will be shredded; personnel told what to say if questioned; players threatened & coached as to what to say. And the more time that goes by, the more time AU would have to build a fence around the program. The NCAA is under the public/media microscope right now, so it has to handle this the right way...for a change perhaps. Either she has tapes or not.

In the past, Roberts was criticized for relying on anonymous sources. This time, her sources have gone on the record and aren't anonymous, and there are several. Now they can certainly claim to have been quoted out of context. And maybe they were...and maybe it won't matter anyway. Most journalists, especially when relying on such lengthy quotes, tape the interview.

Auburn defenders are quick to measure Roberts by her coverage of the Duke lacrosse case. Perhaps better yardsticks would be her coverage of A-Rod and Lance Armstrong...cases when she was dead on the money, when many others were still in denial. She was one of the first to lead the charge against Armstrong when the mainstream media still regarded him as a saint.

Roberts vindicated by Armstrong admissions.
