You let them slide, and then the problem just gets worse.

Auburn is tired of being called a dirty team, and as long as this guy was on the team, others would consider them as dirty. They needed him to play dirty to win the championship and now they don't need him anymore. That's whay they were "All IN".
They did whatever they had to do to win the championship, and didn't care how it looked or how dirty it was. Now, they can sit back on that for 53 years.

So does Saban bench his players when they get a PF penalty?

If a player kneed another guy in the balls from behind Saban would crawl his arse. Yeah I think Saban would have benched Smith.

I dont think he kneed him in the balls. And did he play any more in the game? Considering he was just doing coverage duty on kick offs I believe.

If he didn't hit balls, then it was dangerously close. There's better pictures but all I can find are thumbnails.

Wasn't he open for a td pass but Cam under threw him? Don't know if that was before or after the PF though.

I think that was before, I believe this was the last drive. So kind of a moot point on my part, if so. as there were no more kickoffs I believe the knee was to the back/butt area.

Not trying to defend the guy, just pointing out what actually happened. People also said he was kneed in the face and/or punched because the guy had blood on his face. But that was from the players helmet or somehting. Just a bunch of Butthurt Oregon peeps.

It was a knee to the butt. He played after it happened.

Yeah, Eric Smith was the linchpin in Auburn's NC season.

So, does anyone know why he was dismissed? I will accept rumors without links at this point.

WDE24, rumor is Smith and Updyke were in cahoots.

I guess I will have to go with that until something more believable comes along.

I think his dismissal was more of a culmination of things rather than any one recent act. The stupid personal fouls he had during the season and the off the field stuff the past 2 seasons.

I'm sure that all contributed, but something had to break the camel's back recently or he would have left before the semester started.

He was a blocking back. Phillips will take his spot. No longer needed, the state is loaded for 2012, just making room for next yrs class ahead of time, same old song and dance.

You realize we are super thin at RB and he would be leaving as a senior next year anyway, right?

Based on his history of missing games for being academically ineligible, I think graduation was a long shot anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if his being dismissed was related to some academic issue. However, with E. Smith, there would be very few reasons for dismissal that would surprise me.

Come on, it's easy to see why this guy was dismissed. It was quite obvious that he had an attitude problem, and thought that he could get away with a lot of things, and he did for a while, but now even the coaches are tired of it.
He probably gave them attitude and thought because they covered from him on other things that he was better than he is. If the guy has any talent, it's a shame(for him, I couldn't care less) that he didn't buckle down and make his senior year count so he could go pro and get the big bucks.
