Embarrassing postseason for the once-mighty SEC

No reasonable person could look at the postseason and not conclude the SEC is down in a big way. Alabama lost 38-3 to Indiana. Oklahoma, with its so-called vaunted D, blew a 17-0 lead against that pathetic Alabama team. 11-1 Texas A&M scored 3 points against Miami.

The SEC got 5 teams in the CFP, and every one spit the bit at some point, looking bad doing it. Even UGA and Ole Miss.

Bobo tried to sit on a 9-point lead and lost it. And what happened to that UGA D that used to be dominant?

And while Ole Miss put up a spirited battle against Miami, the D got manhandled at the LOS and in TOP. Only 4 dropped INTs kept them in the game, 1 of which should have been a pick 6 and 2 others were like picking fruit and got juggled before being dropped.

And in the bowl games, Missouri lost to Virginia, Vanderbilt lost to Iowa, and Tennessee lost to Illinois, which got blown out by Indiana.

Not to mention the 5 terrible teams at the bottom of the conference. Some meat grinder. Not anymore.

I’ve seen a tweet or two that it’s due to everyone beating each other up and being too wore out for the postseason while Miami had practically a bye week every week.

I give that excuse about one more season of being somewhat believable

can't lose a bowl game if you don't even play in one

SEC’s lone victory against another power conference was Texas over a Michigan team with no coach

I included Missouri in the failures. I guess you didn't read it?

Big Ten fans used to say the same thing 15 years ago. “We beat each other up” “our conference is just too physical”. Always had an excuse for why the B1G had a losing bowl record

Not until you mentioned it. 5 paragraphs? This isn't English class, bitch. Most of us have the cognitive abilities of a goldfish. Well, the fifth. Others won't be read.

Watering the league down with teams from Great Plains and the Southwest has its consequences.

Yes, ridiculous that some SEC fans still pushing that "our conference play is so tough that we beat each other up." Here's the real story. Now that teams have to earn it on the field - how do we know the SEC would have done as well in previous years? Just remember - UGA would have been voted straight into the semifinals under the old system. And I'm sure some (most?) SEC fans think Ole Miss would deserve an automatic semifinal slot. Oregon and Miami would not have made it in under the old system. But UGA would have made it. That's what years of the southern media pounding out their SEC superiority line does for an image.

The SEC is getting manhandled at the LOS. That was once what made it strong.

Wtf happened to the big DT’s that this conference once bred and made it impossible to run on? It’s like they’ve all disappeared.

Then you should want to be in a weak conference, and for your conference rivals to suck. Either way, conference pride is weak and lame. Id take 5 titles and a bad conference over cheering on other schools who take my recruits every year.

I don't remember that excuse at all.

By about 2008/2009 it was generally accepted that the SEC was far and away the best conference.

Our coaches, save 3 or 4, have generally sucked. It is not the caliber of players. The SEC had the most players drafted last year despite having 2 less teams than the Big 10 and will again this year. Its been the coaches.

Part of the watering down this year came from YOUR team, UK and State, along with Arky and SC.

But even the top teams were down. UGA's D blew a fuse and a 9-point lead to OM. Bama lost 38-3 to Indiana. A&M scored 3 points vs. Miami. Can't sugarcoat that.
