Let me clarify...I would if I found out the person who returned the gun knew my loved one and knew that the owner had a history of harrassing or stalking my loved one or had been arguing with them lately or especially that night then yes. In that case I absolutely would hold the person returning the gun to the owner responsible (at least to some degree) for contributing to the death of my loved one.

If a person brought the gun that killed your loved one to the scene of the crime there is no way you would be so forgiving. Get off it

Oats didn't choose anything. The police and DA say he's not guilty of a crime, so he's going to play him. I'm sure Oats hates this situation as much or more than anyone outside of the victim's family, because he's stuck in the middle of a capital murder investigation and has players involved while not guilty of a crime. Honestly, I'd hate to be Nate Oats right now, but he's doing what most people in his shoes would do. He can't convict his players when the justice system says they're not guilty.

He could bench him for breaking the Bama student conduct code. But we aren’t holding our breath. All that matters at Bama is winning. And they will literally step over the dead body of a young mother to do so

Bamas student behavior code. It was discussed on the SEC network today. You would think that being involved in a murder should be enough, but apparently not in Tuscaloosa. There is apparently a code of conduct for Bamas students. Guess the Bama mucky mucks need to dig it out from whatever rock it has been hidden under

If he had his car on campus with a gun in it...that is a violation.

The quote below is from the code of conduct. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If you aren't charged with a crime, how does the University enforce this with the way it's worded?

quote:

An individual whose conduct violates a federal, state, or local law, as established by a preponderance of the evidence as outlined herein, need not be criminally charged or convicted for their conduct to be deemed a violation of the Code of Student Conduct.

There is mention of having possession of a firearm in another section. Regardless of whether Miller knew it was in the car, by him driving the vehicle it would include him in the definition of being "in possession of." Same type of generalized definition applies to ppl who may have borrowed someone else's vehicle, get stopped by a cop for a minor traffic offense and drugs are found in the vehicle with the person driving having absolutely no knowledge of it. They are considered in possession of the drugs whether it's right or wrong.

There are several things listed in Bama's code of conduct that Bama walked a fine, fine line with in not taking any action against Miller. However, with the wording I see how they were able to do it. Some of the points were left very open to interpretation.

Seems Miller failed to ask why you need a gun? Also, if gun did not belong to Miller, why was he carrying in his car ? When Miller handed gun over, did Miller suspect any nefarious reasons for needing gun.

If I had someone else’s pistol in my car and that person asked me to bring it too them late at night I’d be suspicious. Was Miller?

Sad story. Perhaps no legal action is warranted but morally he should have known better.

Seems Miller is immature and made a bad choice.

Should he be punished? A good tongue lashing at a minimum. Legal charges, that’s not for me too decide.

I hope the young man learns from this.

But... but... they would never "keep it down Home, cuz".

Or pay 180k for an elite Juco QB.. and play him through an investigation.

Or hire a blackballed, lying NCAA violator with a show cause for a basketball coach.

Or hire a former NCAA violating, prostitute-hiring Jimmy Swaggert-wannabe football coach.

You know better than that, Cuyler.

No, no, no! I raised my sons to be responsible for their choices. We specifically covered situations like this. Well, except that these situations involved friends convincing them to drink or smoke weed instead of delivering murder weapons.

Should he be the face of your proud university in the SEC and NCAA tourneys?

ETA, not speaking about legal charges.
