They really don't want to accept UT Austin is practically ranked higher in every STEM program than Texas A&M is. I don't understand why they are arguing against it.
Cockrell is ranked higher in US News and QS rankings.
Our Natural Sciences is also ranked higher on both US News and QS rankings.
QS rates our engineering school 24 in the world and CNS is 30.

Yes, they are ranked ahead of Aggie. Almost all of those rankings use criteria that apply far more accurately to graduate schools than undergraduate in STEM, especially engineering. I have yet to see a undergrad ranking system that was very useful or accurate. ROI is about the best metric, and it's far from perfect. Most of the time it does not adjust for what part of the country grads end up living in, for example, so it's deeply flawed as a national-level metric.
After a 40 year engineering & business career and hiring over a thousand engineers, plus two graduate degrees from UT, a wife who went to both, and two kids graduating from ATM, I am convinced that ATM is the better undergrad school, UT is the better grad school. You will find outliers from both institutions. There isn't as big a gulf between the two schools as either fanbase likes to believe there is.

I graduated from the Cockrell school of engineering and work with many aggies (mostly because of their cultish ways of almost only hiring aggies exclusively). I think the UT program is better but I would not say there is a huge drop between the two. The difference is probably in the other programs.
