Your child will probably fit in best at UF, Mr. Wong.

College admissions today is insane. I got into three top 40 schools with a 3.6/28 back in the 90s. I would be an auto-reject at all three today. I don't know if I would even make the cut at Florida State.

Ideal Bagel
Automatic Pizza
Tlaloc Mexican
Idk if Peppino's Pizza is still around but it's a nice scenic drive if you're into that

It’s all made up ,no different than that GT fan who was complaining on the SEC Rant about UGA fans pissing on him and pushing him down the stairs at Bobby Dodd

From what we have seen, a 4.0 unweighted, alongside AP and dual enrollment courses, is not as common.

The overwhelming majority of kids with 1500+ SATs, 4.0 UW GPAs with all As in their AP courses and mostly 5s on their AP exams get rejected from every single elite private university to which they apply. There is no shortage of extraordniary applicants. In fact, there are too many. There just aren't enough seats at elite universities.

Even among the truly elite applicants, the madness of 'holistic' admissions makes it a crap shoot. It is all about the whims and preferences of anonymous admissions officers that you will never know. Crazy things happen. You can see a kid get rejected by Southern Cal, get waitlisted at Vandy and get into Princeton. It's wild.

Somebody's got to pay some tuition
If my son was good enough to play SEC football, the last thing I would do is tell this group of degenerates.

"Your son missed a block as a true freshman on special teams against UT-Chattanooga. What the frick do you know? Hurrrrr durrrrr..."

Or God forbid my daughter is a D1 athlete. You fricking pervs would stalk her arse on IG, TikTok, etc...

So there are almost certainly Ranters who have kids on athletic scholarships, but they smartly aren't letting the basement dwellers of SECRant know.

Good luck with this process. It’s a lot of pressure on these kids. Make sure she picks some backup schools and explore scholarship and honors college chances at those. Lots of cool things out there at some smaller schools.

Thanks! We're keeping options completely open, but if it comes down to all other things being equal from a money standpoint, she'd probably pick UAB due solely to proximity to home. At this point, I'd pick Mississippi State if it were me. Truly impressive engineering department that clearly has a lot of money behind it.

This is absolutely not our experience at all.

Is this the whole "test optional" thing? Every school we've talked to is ending this practice for my child's class.

I definitely worry far less about my next child who isn't as book smart but is extremely personable with a lot more common sense.

That said, band is not the reason. Has done wonders to make my oldest more relatable to people.

No plans to take that. 31 on the ACT as a Junior, going in blind with no study the day after a 12 hour bus ride for a band trip. We're still deciding if it's worth it to retake it to get another 1-2 points. So far, the gain in potential scholarships doesn't seem worth learning math that isn't needed yet to gain some minor upward movement. 4.3 GPA (4.0 unweighted). Has completed freshman year of college already. Being recruited, hard, by every Ivy League school. I didn't even know they recruited. I do not exaggerate when I tell you this child is a genius. Colleges are falling all over themselves. I'm getting tired of the "junk mail."

Wants to go into Biomechanical Engineering. The options with that specific major are limited, so we're only looking at out of state schools if they specially offer that major. We're considering less specific engineering programs at in-state schools like UA and AU also.

In the state of Georgia, the options are GT and UGA. No thanks to living in Atlanta. In Mississippi, the option is Miss State. In Alabama, the option is UAB. In Florida, the only option within the limits of my child's preferred distance requirements is UF (didn't look at the other schools in Florida). UT and Candy are option in Tennessee, but I'm a firm no on Tennessee and Vandy is in a bad location with a huge attendance cost and little to no scholarships that I can see.

In short, the answer to your question is you will never have a child like this one and whatever your alma mater is, they are begging my child to attend.

lotta words to say you adopted a smart child.
