Just looking at some short clips of both, it looks like the gymnastic meets have much larger crowds.

They don't have as many meets and they do basketball games, so there aren't as many opportunities to see it, and generally the tickets are very cheap or even free (lots of giveaways). Also, some of the SEC schools have a pretty long history of really good gymnastics (Georgia, Florida and Alabama are the biggest examples), and other schools have recently become really good (Auburn and LSU).

Generally you see a lot of families with little kids, especially young girls, go to the meets. It's a big draw a lot of places.

Certainly not most because a lot of SEC schools don't even have a gymnastics team.

Alabama, LSU, and UGA are the three schools where gymnastics probably has better attendance.

I think the chess matches draw more than missou basketball. Gymnastics destroys their bball numbers. Unless you're talking WBB for them.

They are on Friday nights so it is a great thing to do with your kids.

The level of gymnastics is great because of the depth of the SEC.

At UGA it's certainly true but moreso because 1.) We're mediocre at basketball and 2.) tons of kids and families go to the Gymnastics meets (whereas not nearly as many go to the basketball games)

I would imagine ticket prices have a lot to do with attendance.

When tickets are cheaper than a movie then seats start to fill up no matter what's going on.

The PMAC is always full for Gymnastics and is practically empty for basketball.

Most everybody is boycotting hoops until next season when a new coach is in place...............

Nobody cares about winning in gymnastics. People watch cause they know if the gymnast can do that on the mat then there isn't any telling what else she can do.

Teeters Romanian Midget Circus

Not a sport. Purely entertainment.

Any activity that is, or could be, featured on America's Got Talent is not a sport.

Someone could go on America's Got Talent and do some tricks with a basketball and football, so are those not sports?
