The 4-3 is what the spread was built for

So I guess if you judge a team by total wins, a completely stupid dumb-arse thought, we must give the nod to 2018 North Dakota State

Uhhh

Except that 2019 had the best team of all time.

Fact is, he's a loser. Always has been. Ask Ole Miss. If not for
Burrows breakout season he'd never have a title. You can keep on comparing him to Saban
All you want. Fact is he can't carry
Sabans jock.

So first, the great nicky saban and his band of red elephants get beat by ULM and then while at the peak of his career.... nicky gets beat by someone who can tie his own shoe??

I'm starting to think this is the case.

Do you know how thin we are at LB, and how deep we are on the DL? He would have to be crazy to run a 3-4 next year.

You will be in the nickel most of the time anyway. Like the rest of us.

he had a good season in 11 before he faced many spread teams. The only time I can think of him really shutting down a spread team was the two times y’all played Aggie with manziel

He seems to be dead set on running a 4-3 defense. My guess is because he wants to be more involved in the defense because he knows how the D does is likely gonna make or break him next year.

My guess is he doesnt understand the 3-4 as well. Cant be involved if doesnt understand it as well.

I understand this thread is just a drawn-out version of "HUR HUR DUR SHRIMP BOAT CAPTAIN BE DUMB DUMB", but to make this thread a little less wasteful of bandwidth, I'd suggest that CEO prefers a 4-3 base because he's finding it easier to find and recruit DE's and DT's suited for the 4-3.

Aranda ran a good defense, but we created no quarterback pressure. That was fine in 2019, because we had the GOAT QB, but when the playing field is level, you need a better defensive front.

you serious Clark?

LSU didn't fully transition to a 3-4 under Aranda until 2017.

LSU's 4-3 defense shut down Oregon, Texas A&M w/ JM 2x, Ole Miss in 2014 and 2016 under Freeze, Lamar Jackson in 2016, WVU and Geno Smith in 2010 (also beat them 47-21 in 2011 despite giving up a lot of yards). Hell, they even shut down the Alabama spread offenses over that time with Hurts and Tua as well as anyone, but they just couldn't score for it to make a difference. LSU did all of this with 4 man fronts with either 3 LBs or 2 LBs and a nickel. There's nothing inherently better about a 3-4 as opposed to a 4-3 in terms of stopping the spread. What matters is staying disciplined, tackling well, and sideline to sideline speed.

This notion of "zomg he wants to run a 4-3 instead of a 3-4, lol" is just a bad/ignorant take. Most people aren't trotting out 4 LBs every play, regardless of whether their "base defense" is a 3-4. But, based on this board (and the LSU board), Ed could be determined to run a 3-4 instead pf a 4-3 and the argument would be why he's stupid for doing that.

Yeah but he knows how to go 15-0. Something Saban doesn’t know how to do.

Idk what he wants to do I’m just letting you know as someone who coaches football for a living, if you run a 4-3 against predominantly spread opponents you are going to have a much tougher time than if your running a 4-2,3-4,3-2, or 3-3. If you think differently you simply don’t understand modern college football
