You might want to go check out this week's video of one of the county election boards saying the TX SoS gave a directive to register/accept votes from folks whose TX DL states they're NON-CITIZENS, in case they've become naturalized since their license was obtained.

Austin is only geographically southern. Culturally it is closer to the pacific coast than it is to Birmingham, as an example of the south. Culturally the south ends almost on a line from Houston to Tyler and over to Texarkana. There is some seepage across that line but it dries up quick and becomes the mid-west.
