While I agree with your general premise, the AP poll isnt the end all be all of CFB. There were polls 50 years before and essentially an alternative mechanism the last 25 plus years.

So, being #1 in the Coaches Poll and winning a championship doesn't count, but an AP #1 does. Okay.
