So basically ROTC + some guys playing dress up and doing D&C?

There are only five schools in the United States whose Cadet Corps commission every single graduate or are even allowed to:

U.S. Military Academy
U.S. Naval Academy
U.S. Air Force Academy
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Even then, there's close to a 25% attrition rate between initial enrollment and when you sign your contract your junior year.

ROTC programs are capped by law (Title 10) on how many of their cadets they can commission. Senior Military Colleges are designated by having a full-time uniformed Corps of Cadets with a 24/7 regimented environment meeting certain standards which offers all ROTC options.

ROTC, at all schools, is "try before you buy" (meaning that, unless you're on scholarship you don't sign your contract until the beginning of your junior year).

A Senior Military College has higher allocations of active duty slots by branch than their respective non-SMC ROTC Counterparts, higher allocations of specialty school slots (such as airborne and air assault) and, at least on the Army side, has their cadets exempt from certain precommissioning requirements.

When cadets elect not to take a commission and go D&C, they have to pay all of their uniform fees out of pocket. While still enrolled in ROTC, the services pay those fees.

Incidentally, for what it's worth, if LSU were to decide to establish a uniformed student body (maybe call them the Tiger Corps), they would be immediately eligible for SMC status since they meet all other criteria.

The specific law that governs what is and isn't a Senior Military College can be found here.

We heard they single-handedly won us WWII while UT stayed home and sipped on aromatic beverages. Or something like that.

I don’t know why y’all respond to these jackasses.
They’re not going to care what you have to say, nor are they going to change their minds.
Do yourself a favor, and don’t waste your energy.

Serious answer: A&M is a designated "Senior Military College" along with VMI, The Citadel, Va Tech, Norwich, and University of North Georgia.

Serious question: does that mean if you graduate as a cadet I guess, that you graduate an officer? Honest question.

I’ve always wondered this about TAM.

George S Patton said that he could win a battle with West Point cadets, but he could win a war with Fighting Texas Aggies

If they’re not affiliated with the military, wtf is going on with their uniforms?
The Aggies have a great history of military service and I suspect they are currently supplying the military with great officers if you are a sjw look somewhere else

They supplied more Army officers during WWII than any other university in the U.S.. That oughta count for something.

Yes. But it is not guaranteed. As stated in an earlier post, there is a larger allocation for SMCs vs non-SMC ROTC.

When I was a student, nearly every cadet was given the option of a commission. But now the commissions are capped. I don't know the exact percentage currently but a while back it was still nearly 50%.

It is similar for VaTech and the others but the roles of the cadets there are not nearly the focus they are at A&M.

The reality is the Corps of Cadets are between 2000 and 2500 students out of 70,000+. They are roughly 3% of the student population.

We were ranked #1 when it was announced that he was going to Bama during the 1957 season.

That does count for something. Counts for a lot actually. I respect the history there. But times are different. A large majority dont even enlist anymore and then act like they're West Point. From the outside perspective it just looks like most of them are there to play grab arse.

Another key difference between regular ROTC and Senior Military Colleges comes in the event of a full or total mobilization.

Normal ROTC programs can be suspended by the Secretaries of Military departments thereby making the participants immediately available for reassignment. This does not apply to Senior Military Colleges.

This means in the event of a full or total military mobilization, the 6 Senior Military Colleges will remain in operation at a normal or accelerated pace along with the Service Academies while other ROTC programs do not.

You can make fun of our football team, our traditions we hold dear. But if you wish to slander and denigrate our tradition of military service to this country you’d better keep hiding behind your keyboard and Antifa mask in your mommy’s basement. Otherwise you will get your arse kicked. Saying otherwise about the proud Aggie service to this country does nothing but reveal an astonishing ignorance and stupidity that reflects poorly on you and your university.

The military is SJW now though it's silly to pretend otherwise, you'd probably get dishonorably discharged for criticizing blm or antifa
