Auburn is definitely not top 10. Even if you win a NC at Auburn, have a bad season and you lose all fan support and your job.

I would think the expecations by the fans as to the unwillingness to suffer failure would be a reason to say it its, not a reason to say it isn't.

I dont' know many top programs that embrace mediocrity...much less being abysmal.

I'm not really looking for a coach who is concerned about that, someone who has a 'but what if i lose' mentality.

That wasn't just a bad season, it was epically bad. It takes some major ineptitude to lose in the fashion Chizik did with the talent he had (Frazier aside). Couple that with the off the field issues, it was time to go.

Auburn rarely gets the top talent in Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. But, Auburn is in an interesting geographic and historical position that they can pick up a ton of guys who may not be the top 3 prospects but those certainly in the top 10-20 players from those 3 states. You can build a damned solid football team with those guys just below the upper crust from talent rich states.

Yes, Auburn consistently gets its share of the top talent in each state.

- Corey Lemonier - 4th in FL

- Jeff Whitaker - 7th in GA

- Ladarious Owens - 7th in AL

- Kenneth Carter 8th in AL

- Carl Lawson - 2nd in GA

- Monty Adams - 3rd in GA

- Ricky Parks 6th in FL

- Reese Dismukes 1st in AL

- Quan Bray 8th in GA

Unsigned

- Roc Thomas 4th in AL

- Tre Williams 3rd in AL

- Nick Ruffin 9th in GA

- Justin Thornton 5th in AL

There are more (but not worth listing, "busts"), and this is since '10. As far as I'm going back at the moment.

In no order and off the top of my head the top 10 jobs would be....

Texas
USC

Florida State
Bama
LSU
Georgia
Notre Dame
Penn State
Ohio State

Honorable mention:

A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma, Michigan, Miami

Oregon on the super fast rise though.

Not even close

What would you define as "close"? I don't know if AU is top 10 but I think it would be a real stretch to keep them out of the top 15 which is pretty dang close.
