Even with the meh year Georgia has had,it is still Tech after all. Beating Tech is as close to a birthright that any Dawg can claim. 20-5 in the last quarter of a century. Even in what passes as a great year at that place, the wheels have to come completely off for them to even have a shot.

With the possible exception of Tennessee/Vandy, I am not sure there is another in state rivalry that is so completely owned by one side as it is here. UGA controls everything in this state: the money, the media, the government. Everything here is set up to funnel more students, more resources, more sidewalk fans to UGA. Tech gets none of that and their program is slowly withering on the vine.

What about your in state rival? Do they worry you?

Do most UGA fans hate Tech more than anyone else?

If there is an emotion that combines hate and pity, that is really it.

Honestly, it would be better for UGA if they just folded that program. There is no benefit to winning most years and it just causes unneeded problems and angst once or twice a decade when they manage to win.

If I were Georgia I wouldn't sweat Tech either. Tech is a better school academically while Georgia can still get thugs in with lower standards.

Only during the exceedingly rare times we lost to them the last game played

If you live in Georgia outside of Metro Atlanta you see Tech fans less often than you see Alabama or Auburn fans, and maybe Florida if you live south of the gnat line. Now, if you live in Metro Atlanta (specifically ITP) then you will deal with quite a few Tech grads.

It's much more like Vanderbilt-Tennessee than any other SEC in-state rivalry game.

How weird is it as a Georgia fan having 2 primary rivalries on opposite ends of the spectrum?

You'd hate to lose to them, but I'd be willing to be a lot of Georgia folks would trade some of those Tech wins to beat Florida

I don't sweat it as much as I used to, but I still do feel a little different when this week rolls around each year. This year, I am just hoping we keep it close and am looking forward to tailgating.

You got dam right. I don't sleep much this week. I work with Aubs, I live with Aubs, hell my dad is an Aub, my mom is an Aub, uncles, aunts, cousins. They are all total a holes when we lose this.

NOTHING beats beating Auburn.

My aunt, who is an Aub is married to my Bama uncle. My cousin was due around Nov 24thish. They induced labor to make sure the birth didn't interfere. She was born the Wed before the iron Bowl and everyone was ready for the game.

It really depends how old you are and depth of history with the Georgia program.

Every dawg fan of course wants to beat Florida more often. But if you are or have been raised by older Georgia fans, you understand the importance of never losing to Tech.

For that group, the greatest fear is to wake up one morning and find that you are no longer the top program in your state.

It has only been threatened a couple of times in my lifetime and from my understanding there was swift action taken in all corners to make sure Georgia and Tech both returned to where they are supposed to be.

That hasnt happened in the last 15 years or so, although if we hadnt won that game a few years ago when they were top 10 and were looking for back to back wins, the rumblings would have started.

UGA has its own machinery in place to keep things this way. It would take a minor miracle to bring it down, but you cannot fall asleep at the wheel either.

If this makes any sense, Florida is our favorite team to beat but GT is the one we absolutely hate losing to. At least that's the feeling I get from some of the fan base and it certainly applies to me.

Well put. I live in metro Atlanta and when we lose its unbearable, it makes me want to burn the gt campus down the few times we lose.

I do and it isn't even remotely close, in any conceivable way.

All of this, and yet the state of Georgia is LOADED with fans/grads of UT, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, FSU, and Clemson. And that shows in recruiting.

I think Tech-Georgia is to the Georgia fanbase what the difference in Alabama-Auburn and Alabama-Tennessee are to the Alabama fanbase : geography.

Alabama folks who grew up or live in or near Tennessee hate Tennessee just as much as Auburn. Those who are from Mobile or Dothan in all likelihood do not (especially not the younger ones).

Georgia people who live in Metro Atlanta, especially younger ones in the city, see and deal with Tech folks 10x more than Georgia folks in Valdosta or Augusta, and so because of that the Tech game is a huge deal to them.

That's been my experience with it at least.

The question of "who do YOU hate more" or "who do you like beating the most" are purely opinions and as GAAtty said, it often depends on where you're located and who you interact with more on a routine basis.

As for "who is UGA's biggest rival?", that is tech.

My grandfather, who is an Alabama alum in his late 70's, to this day hates Tech more than Tennessee or Auburn.
