What??

He was the defensive coordinator there for three years, man.

I figured you Alabama fans would know that.

Yes, and they moved to Baltimore. Thus, the organization Saban worked for are the Baltimore Ravens now.

as part of the legal settlement between the city of Cleveland and the NFL, Ravens franchise history does not extend to original Browns, they left the history/name/logos/colors/etc in Cleveland

In short, you're wrong

quote:

The following February, the warring parties reached a compromise. Under its terms, Modell would be allowed to take his personnel to Baltimore, but would leave Cleveland the Browns' colors, logos and heritage for a reactivated Browns franchise that would take the field no later than 1999.[267] The $175 million earmarked for stadium improvements was to be used instead build a new stadium, with up to $48 million of additional financial assistance from the NFL. Further, Modell was ordered to pay Cleveland $9.3 million to compensate for lost revenues and taxes during the Browns' three years of inactivity, plus up to $2.25 million of the city's legal fees. As a result of the deal Modell's team was technically an expansion franchise, called the Baltimore Ravens.[268]

If I were a top 10 prospect I’d purposely tank my combine just so I wouldn’t be drafted by Cleveland.

Worst team in professional sports
Worst shitbag owner in professional sports who tried his hand (and has pretty much succeeded) in ruining UT football
Shithole city with ugly girls

Noooo thanks.

There's a payment in the $50,000-$150,000 range from the Baltimore Ravens Limited Partnership in the 2017 form submitted by Saban. What could that possibly be?

Saban's age and previous employment should have been a clue. He turned 65 in October, triggering a retirement payout from his former employer -- then known as the Cleveland Browns. Saban was the defensive coordinator for four seasons under Bill Belichick in Cleveland from 1991-94. The franchise left for Baltimore after the following season.

Im convinced they could have drafted Peyton Manning and he would have been a bust.

And that would have been tough to do considering they didnt exist when he was Drafted.

That's irrelevant. The lawsuit stipulates the history of the Browns stay in Cleveland and, as i posted, the Ravens are officially an expansion franchise who were given special exemption to transfer contracts of Browns players to their roster.

Further, here's a Baltimore Sun article on the topic:

LINK
quote:

Likewise, the deal calls for Cleveland to drop its lawsuit against theBrowns, a case that was scheduled for trial Monday. The city sought to forcethe Browns to play the final three seasons of their lease at ClevelandStadium.

Instead, Cleveland will build a 72,000-seat stadium at the site of the current facility. The city estimates this will cost between $220 million and$230 million, and will be paid for by league financing and a $175 million package of tax increases and borrowing already approved by Cleveland.

Cleveland also agreed not to lure a team itself, leaving its football destiny in the NFL's hands.

In return, the city will get to keep the Browns' name, colors and records for use by another team that the league promises to bring to the city, through expansion or relocation, by 1999.

The Ravens probably agreed to take on the old Browns debt as part of the settlement as well, but in no scenario does the history of the Baltimore Ravens extend any earlier than 2/9/1996. Not in the eyes of either team, the NFL, or the legal system.

We aren't even having the same argument.

My point was that Saban has no connections to the current Browns franchise.

The Cleveland Brows are the Cleveland Browns. It has a different owner and stadium but he coached for the franchise located in Cleveland, not Baltimore.

Yet, he's paid money by Baltimore every year.

It is all a technicality until old debts are paid.

No. Life is what you make of it. You generally won't be able to control where you go. Think of how big a name you'll have if you win at a place like Cleveland.

eliminate the draft and salary cap (and salary floor)

keep revenue sharing so all teams have a chance to compete.

teams and players can come to whatever terms they want between each other.
