Who is “they” and what would be their reason for locking everybody in their homes and canceling everything?

There may be, but it could get cancelled early and the crowds will be down significantly.

Yes because we have been treating this exactly like a regular flu season so far.

As more data becomes available, it will become increasingly clear how much of an overreaction this was. I don't know that the NCAA will decide to do, but the fans will be ready for football by August.

Hell I’m ready now. The fans will be the last people factored into the decision and certainly won’t have any part in making the decision though.

The demand will play some sort of role. It always does.

so many small minded people on this board. do you have any clue the market cap of the airlines? the cruise industry? ponder the money lost in the amusement park industry. movie industry. concerts. etc.

but you somehow believe college football is the harbinger of all.

You can start playing sports within a month or two without fans. I have no doubt on that

Hell they could have played the masters last week. What would be the fricking risk there

It comes down to what sports has the balls to do it first. Leagues are going to be more worried about the public outcry or perception that the actual risk to start playing these games without fans which would be minimal

I say the nfl does it. They don’t give a frick. They don’t care about any negative comments because they are bulletproof proof in America at this point

I am pretty sure you just made that up. The flu death rate isn’t 10% by any stretch of the imagination

Other than Georgia having one of the higher outbreaks, no risk at all.

Or it could be that the perceived overreaction is what is causing the data to look like it was an overreaction.

"They" would be the media and others who purposely ignored the data was obviously flawed and pretended this thing was more deadly than it actually was.

As for the rest - Good question, I do not know. Panic has justified the need for further panic thus far.

60% chance it starts on time
30% chance it doesn't start until mid-October
10% chance it doesn't start until November or is canceled outright

Hopefully I'm wrong and there's 100% chance it starts with Week 0 in August per usual

Correct, read what I wrote again. It is not actually 10%.

The WHO comes up with a death rate of the flu as being 0.1%. They come up with that number because they add in what they consider to be unreported cases. Which for the record is the right way to do it and gives the more accurate number.

When they d0 the Coronavirus numbers, they do NOT add in any unreported cases. They only count the confirmed cases. Despite knowing probably 50% of the people never show a single symptom when they get it, and at least another 30% only get mild symptoms and never get tested. This is not the correct way to do it.

They are using 2 different formulas.

If you use the formula for the coronavirus, where you only count actual confirmed cases for the flu virus, the number is 10%. And we all know with the Coronavirus the rate is 3-4% or whatever it is lately.

On the flip side, if you were to add in estimated cases to the coronavirus, the death rate drops down to roughly between 0.25% and 0.5%. That was using an 80% untested rate. It's seeming that number is likely low lately, which would drop those rates even further. And like wise, and lower number would increase it.

2 different formulas being used, but the media for some reason NEVER tells people this. Instead, they act like the 0.1% flu number and the 3-4% coronavirus are using the same formulas.

For those who struggle with math, that's quite a bit less than the millions that the media was telling everyone previously

I have not heard a single person say there would be a million deaths.

I have heard 200K thrown around though.........but even that number is a long way from a million.

ETA the graph you linked showed around 200K.......not a million.

Again, your stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

Doubtful. People are in fact dying. It's not a made up virus, it's real.

What isn't real are the numbers being used to scare people and cause panic.

Oh ok. I must’ve missed my stay at home order from Fox News or where CNN cancelled the Masters for this weekend.
