I had never read a Kentucky board before last night, but I was a bit surprised by what seemed like a near consensus among Kentucky fans that Cal should leave. One on hand, it could have just been frustration with last nights mind-boggling loss, but on the other hand, I got the sense that frustration has been building for a lot of UK fans for some time now.

Obviously Cal has had some really good success at Kentucky, a national championship, he’s been to the final four three times, and Elite Eight six times in thirteen seasons. Of course, standards at Kentucky are so high compared to any other team in the SEC, and maybe they feel like there should have been more success given the talent level at Kentucky.

What are your thoughts, Kentucky fans?

have you ever read literally any sports team message baord immdiately following a loss? Even bama fans will have people wondering "if saban has lost a step and maybe look at retirement?" whenever they lose a game.

I think the general notion is that he’s lost his touch. He’s had some great years at UK, won an NC, and so on. But between last year and this year it’s time for him to retire.

But he won’t. And Barnhart isn’t going to force the issue. There’ll be a lot of empty seats in Rupp next year.

And then get 100 downvotes and 5 pages of replies calling him an idiot. You’d be hard-pressed to find five posters on CatsIllustrated not calling for Cal’s head right now.

The thing is - this has been brewing for a long, long time. Losing to St. Peter's is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Frankly, Cal is extremely unlikable. His act gets real old, real quick. Winning will cover for it. Cal's no longer winning.

There are three or four better coaches just in the SEC right now. It's not a matter of "who can Kentucky get that's better". It's a question of "who can't they get that's better".

Yes.
I do not expect us to win a title every year. That'd be nuts.
What I do expect, as many do and it's not like its hard to do it at UK
-be in contention for a title (IE: should be making deep tournament runs regularly, further than sweet sixteen)
-be feared by every team we play
More often than not this was the case, especially when cal first got here
But recently he's been sliding into suckage and seems to think he is above reproach. He's never been a great in game coach but he could recruit. Well now that's gone too so now he's embarrassingly mediocre

So yes, I want him gone. And it wasn't just last night that that started for me. It's been years, last night just dumped gas on the fire

Kentucky fans are in a tough spot… cal is never gonna change… he coaches his teams the same every year, whether he had 5 lottery picks or none… and that has to be infuriating. It’s dribble/drive with no thought into it… he’s just gonna try to out talent everyone…. And that’s just not working that well right now.

Fred Flintstone could be coaching UK and fans would show up.

Bama expanded the stadium twice (one phase completed the other approved) during the Shula years.

They’ve already been dealing with lower attendance due to the atrocious home schedule. People won’t continue to pay for that product if it’s not producing. Even Kentucky Basketball.

The game has passed him by IMO. He won’t get with the times. He’s doing exactly what Stoops did by coaching the game the way it’s always been coached. The difference is Stoops made a change and Cal did not. That’s why there’s been a clear shift in which sport has more support in Lexington.

Cals philosophy is just dated and doesn’t work. He struck gold with AD and finally got a ring. Without AD he probably still doesn’t have a ring. It’s time for UK to move on. We will attract talent no matter what. However, there’s 10 coaches out there currently that would have made a deep run with the talent we have. That’s the worst loss since I’ve been a fan.

I'll tell ya, I don't think I've seen Cal as crushed looking than last nights presser. But he was right, SP made the shots UK missed. And no coach can't run out and make the FTs or layups for them. I can't imagine how the kids feel but this is on them as much as anyone. Time to grow up and work.

The problem is the offensive issue didn’t just show up last night. It’s been happening for a few games. Grady is a good example. Once Grady started hitting that outside slump, Cal should’ve started running more for him to attack the basket (which he can do). You get your guys the easy buckets to rebuild the confidence for step back out. Sometimes it’s as much about coaching guys out of a slump as it is anything else.

Those lifetime contracts really make things a bit squirrelly though

I'm just saying the kids were responsible for going 23/35 from the stripe while SP went 18/21. 3P percentage wasn't even close. Oscar has way too much on his shoulders.

With coal/bourbon money and tuition raises? Yes.
Will the school do it though? No

The only time in my life I wouldn't cheer for Memphis was when he was the coach.
