Do pro golfers care if they are cut

I have a question for any caddy, golfer, or coach. Is it common for established golfers to work on their game for two rounds to prepare for something down the road and not care about making the cut. I noticed a lot of times the really good pros that win or finish high never compete the following week at a middle of the road tournament. Thots?

No. A bunch of them are overweight slobs. They don't need to be cut to impress the ladies with their money.

Maybe if it’s a course that can prepare them for another big tournament but other than that I don’t see a pro traveling to get 2 rounds in in a tournament he’s not expecting to make money at instead of just staying local and working on whatever he needs to.

Yes.

If they dont make the cut they hardly make any money (if any, depending on the tournament), and they have to pay their way to get to every event. Established golfers who have performed well and won once or twice probably don’t give a shite if they make the cut every once in a while, but it can be a make or break for a non-exempt tour pro ms fighting to qualify for events.
So, the answer is, it depends

Established golfers don’t need lower tier tournaments for money or keeping their tour status. They typically only play majors and FedEx Cup events

So…like I said, it depends
Edit: I missed the fact that the OP asked about established golfers, I thought he was asking about all golfers. My mistake

Depends on who it is?
I guarantee you 75-125 on the money list care.
JT this week probably better off missing the cut.
Get some rest heading towards the US Open.

Yes, they’ll play a tournament as a warmup or prep for a big event.

No. They’re professionals. They’re playing to win.

They don’t need the points to keep their status on tour, exemptions, or money. Most of the top tier play about 25 events per year to meet the minimum tour and sponsor requirements, plus majors, courses/tournaments/locations they like, etc.

Winning is draining and there are commitments after the win that other players don’t experience

What?
Absolutely.
Nobody is showing up to a tournament, paying for lodging, committing tons of times in practice rounds and pro ams, media obligations, etc. to not give a shite about making the cut.
If a tour payer is in the field he expects to 100% make the cut.

99.9% of them are trying to win every week.
And then there is John Daly.
And then there is John Daly.

Do any of them other than tiger get an appearance fee?

Their schedules are usually committed in advance. They would rather practice @ home then throw away an event as a “practice round”.

No one gets appearance fees. They do get perks to play. Free courtesy cars, lodging, outings like fishing trips, etc. it comes with obligations too. Media, proam, sponsor meetings, vendor stuff, etc. One of the reasons the new Saudi tour is attractive is the guaranteed money to play.

Several years ago I worked for a Fortune 500 company that continues to be a sponsor of the PGA Senior tour. My job was to escort a customer as he played with a member of the tour and three other duffers (customers).
I became friends with the caddy of the golfer I was teamed with. These golfers virtually have no time off. They had just finished a tour stop in Hawaii on Sunday. Monday they flew to San Antonio. They played with my group on Tuesday. Wednesday they attempted to qualify. Thursday they began play. If they got cut, they got no money and headed to the next course. If they made the cut they played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday they started all over again.
Meanwhile this professional was a delight to be with. He joked with the people in his foursome and was a great PR person.
The caddy told me they took off a few weeks a year but it was mostly a week in a new town (hotel room) every seven days.
Not sure it is a glamourous life.

Some of the Chuds in here saying no and depends can get the frick out.
Professional athletes don’t like to lose.
Amateur athletes don’t like to lose.
Me drunk on a Tuesday at Men’s league fricking hates losing.
Yes, they care 100% if they miss a cut. The top pros aren’t playing every event because they don’t have to. The guys scrambling trying to qualify for majors are going to play most tournaments.
