Do players get kicked off the teams for smoking in states that pot is legal?

Yes. People still get fired from jobs that drug test too in states where it is legal.

I'm curious about this too.
Is it similar to alcohol, where the test has to indicate the employee was actually high while on the clock, or could they be fired for a residual positive weeks later (from a time when they weren't at work)?
ETA: I have no idea how this works in legal states. Is it up to each individual employer to enforce what they choose, or do the laws dictate anything? I assume in terms of employee rights, it's still illegal at the national level, right?

Yes it's residual. That's really the only problem with cannabis is that they don't have a test (that I know of) that will test if you are intoxicated at the time or the level. The more you use, the longer it stays in your system. shite like cocaine will be in and out in a day or two. Cannabis will show up for weeks in your urine or blood, and years in your hair.
You could be an infrequent use, smoke on a Monday night, be totally fine the next day and then you get a random test 2 days later and you get fired. It sucks.

Yes. Just like employees get fired for toking in states where it is legal but their employer still forbids it.

NCAA says each school can have their own policy but once created they must follow the policy

My daughter has a condition that pot would help her, and medical pot has been approved in Georgia, but her husband works with the federal govt, and since it's still a federal crime, he could lose his job if it were discovered my daughter used it, even for medicinal purposes

That sucks. I hate that it’s been demonized the way it has. Decriminalizing it federally would be a big first step.

What really sucks is that they are treated the same when they are nothing alike.

Hell, when I was in school you could get kicked off for smoking cigarettes!

Tell me you don't believe this.
Get caught with a small personal use bag of weed - even in a state like Alabama - and you're getting a misdemeanor. Getting caught multiple times with personal use amounts, you may get charged with the lowest level (class D) felony.
Get caught with any little tiny amount of booger sugar like residue on a baggie one single time and you're getting charged with a class C felony.
They're not treated alike in any way at all at the criminal level. Your mileage with private employers, quite obviously, may vary.

There are employers today that have a tobacco free policy that will fire you if you're caught smoking or dipping.

Do athletes get banned for taking beta blockers or diuretics in states where it's legal with a prescription?

Usually the "run you off" meant literally, as in running you until you dropped...although you'd usually get a 2nd chance if you hadn't been screwing up before...much.

Many do it for insurance savings. you can do it offsite, but better not get caught. Some even test for nicotine at the beginning with initial drug test

Same consequences for either at my old company.
Plus there are plenty of people who still consider those two the same.
