Did we get an explanation from the SEC Officiating on Arkansas targeting call?

The one that wasn't targeting. Ejected their best player. ?

Like they ejected Ricks...

Well yeah, both calls? No explanation? Lol

The one where the guy threw his body sideways into the receiver, they reviewed it, and still called it targeting?!

"The refs make the call on the field. DWI"

Takes a real shitty call to piss me off. That call was as bad as I have ever seen.
That is why refs run off the field and change under the stands..

No explanation given, Catalon is suspended for the first half of the next game whenever that is

On review of that clip, ARKY should be happy 18 and 31 weren't ejected as well for mutual fratricide targeting.

It's the rule that's shitty, not the call. They're gonna call any contact that's near the neck especially when the player launches. That's about as good of a tackle as a defender can make. But, it's targeting by the way the rule is written.

I’m sorry you feel this way, but I could imagine that the sec referees use this as a training video next fall as to an example of what is targeting under the current rules. “This should always be flagged.

That's exactly what made it targeting under the new rules. Can't launch into a defenseless player which includes a receiver in the process of making a catch. You especially can't do it to the head and neck area. Again, it's a dumb rule. But, that is the rule.

Where did he hit the player? I seem to recall a few aspects of the rule.

Yes.
Hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Herman.

exactly what was the defender supposed to do?
Twist a knee leaping to avoid any contact with a falling receiver?

I guess you're suppose to hit him in the knees and cause permanent knee damage.

Can't launch
I thought that was going to be the case at first too, but looking at the replay I don’t believe he launched, he’s still got a foot on the ground when the contact occurs.
He also didn’t appear to crouch. The receiver started going down on one knee while the defender was in the act of the tackle, and only the offensive player lowered his head.
I just don’t see how this is true targeting. I actually think the defender was purposefully trying not to target by twisting his body.
At the very least it’s extremely subjective, and they really need to address the ambiguity of these calls by changing or clarifying the rules. I just think this stuff happens so fast on the field, it really almost needs to be egregious before they decide to eject a player for a half, IMO.

Missouri will not be playing them due to being scared of losing to Missouri! I think Missouri is going to play Vandy instead. Too bad Tigers were looking for some Razorbacks for Dinner!

I actually think it's a clear launch as evidenced by his feet flying up when he makes the hit.

Absolutely. It's especially shitty when the defender does everything he's supposed to do then the receiver ducks to protect himself then the defender gets hit with a penalty. IMO keep it as a penalty for egregious things like spearing and head hunting.

Looks very similar to another big hit in this series that led to a targeting call that never should have been. Chad Jones

By this year's rule, that is targeting.
