Did Hankton suck as a WR coach for LSU? Not a whole lotta love for him on Bucks 247.

Just curious to find out what any tigers fans liked or didn’t like with him?

He hasn't developed anyone since he arrived. The kids who did well were here before him.

He had good and bad seasons.

The drops were out of control this year

He's a pretty bad coach and developer. UGA fans told us this when we hired him and they were right. Pretty good recruiter from a relationship standpoint with the high school kids, but that matters less and less these days.

I can't say any receiver got better under his watch outside of just getting older/stronger. The routes and drops were bad, blocking was bad, etc.

He’s not awful but he’s not an ace recruiter or developer.

I thought he did a pretty good job at UGA with the coaching side, but not recruiting.

Remember when LSU used to put dudes into the NFL?

There's a sharp decline there after Hankton had to do things on his own and not have Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. waiting here for him

It might be harsh but at LSU we expect better than Aaron Anderson, Barion Brown, Kyren Lacy and Zavion Thomas. I wouldnt say he did a BAD job, he just wasnt living up to the expectations of a WR coach at LSU. At OSU it could be the same.

We got him from UGA, which is not exactly a bastion of collegiate WR production. A few underwhelming years when we didn’t have NFL WRs, which leads me to believe he isn’t great at developing route runners & had a few dudes with dropsies — but he recruits pretty well.

Haha, good luck. He’ll cost you recruits because he can’t keep it in his pants.

WRs get the drops under this dude. I wasn’t impressed with our decline in the position.

Did you see the of this year? That was a total team failure. Players. Coaches. Not one innocent person on the offense. He was a part of that obliteration.

UGA receivers were not stellar before he came to LSU
The receivers he inherited at LSU did fine but last year was a disaster

I still think the LSU oline was the biggest problem

Let's put it this way.....it wasn't the summer of 10,000 catches for sure.

Interesting stat I had to look up to make sure was actually true

At LSU we expect some receiver to take over some games. To look back at this season, I have a hard time remembering when this happened. TreyDez Green at TE looked unstoppable in a few games, but he's a TE, not WR.

Among the WR group this season Hankton didnt have a single WR break 100 yards receiving in a game.

I honestly couldnt tell you the last year that happened at LSU, it might go back to the 90s. Even in 2024 Anderson did it 2x, Lacy did it 3x...Chris freaking Hilton even did it once and it was in the bowl game. In a bad offensive year we had 6 100+ yard performances from WRs in a game. Literally zero this season.

In 2023 Nabers and Thomas did it 15x themselves. Lacy had 2 more 100 yard+ games that season as well.

Pretty unbelievable.

He was a non-factor at UGA. Didn’t recruit well, didn’t really elevate any receivers that he did have (Pickens was the most notable guy in that room and he was a James Coley guy, not Hankton). Monken made up for a lot of his shortcomings both in coordinating and coaching, rumored to have lost the WR room in 2021 (when we won the first natty) which is why he made a quick exit to LSU in 2022.

He didn't do a good enough job developing what he was given.

There are probably 80 games from the Les Miles era where no receiver got 100 yards.
