Meh. His record was better than the guy before him and the guy after him.

Interestingly, the guy after him went 1-15, is regarded as one of the worst coaches in NFL history, and was later hired by LSU to completely humiliate them in the SEC. Go figure.

Exactly what I posted. He didn't trust Dr. Andrews when he said that Drew's shoulder was going to heal stronger than before the surgery.
You misinterpreted what he said. He and some other football people wanted to sign Brees anyway, but the others in the org went with the medical advice. He said there was nothing he could do about it.

He actually did quite well considering the mess he inherited. He took a 4-12 team and went 9-7 garnering COY consideration. The next year his defense finished number 4 in the NFL, but because he was left with an injured Culpepper, Cleo Lemon and Joey Harrington as QBs, he went 6-10. He beat SB runner-up Chicago something like 33-14 and shutout NE. That 2006 game was the last shutout NE and Brady have suffered. The Patriots admin and fans were very paranoid regarding Saban and were greatly relieved when he left. Miami/WH/fans/media wanted him to remain badly - that's why the great animosity by their media and fanbase. The year after he left they went 1-15. So, the 2 years before and after Saban, Miami was 5-27, his 2 years in between 15-17 and COY candidate. He was a good and successful NFL HC. Who knows if he would have been great?

Contrary to popular opinion, Saban liked the NFL players and he and his wife loved Huizenga. But WH allowed Nick to leave because he saw that his heart was more in college than the NFL. (You can see that from WH's public comments at the time.) Saban didn't leave because he was a failure or because he hated the NFL. There were 2 primary reasons: he loved the college game because of the effect a HC has on his players at that time in their life as opposed to the older NFL players; he loved the much greater control he had over his roster selection. I.e., recruiting vs drafting and FAs, especially since he did not have total control.

He left because he didn’t have a QB and figured out pretty quick that you can’t win in the NFL without a QB.

I really don’t think he gives one frick about his players and their lives.

I give zero fricks how he did in the NFL, but he was just shy of 500, which is pretty good

I agree 100% except the best NFL coaches can’t “win” without a QB.

He didn’t have one and who knows when he would get one.

He can win at bama without a QB.

Always do.
And Florida.
I’m not hard to figure out.

But I really do try to stick to facts unless it’s tongue in cheek stuff.

He took a paycut. The Dolphins were paying him more than the original $4MM we doled out.

I think that he took the Miami job for $5 million a year, but I might be mistaken

I think Dante Cullpepper dated a gal named Destiny. So yes, destiny kinda brought Saban to Bama.

Saban didn't have the authority to override the team doctor's physical. Do you even understand how all that works, or is it a "my narrative or it's wrong" kind of mentality?

I saw her up close and in person, in line at the old A&E Pharmacy on the westside of Pensacola, about a year after her 15 minutes of infamy with Price.

Those photos are very flattering.

LOLZ at LSU fans revising history.

The only person revising history is Nick Saban. He's the one who said the medical staff overuled him. Let's not forget that he had the ear of Wayne Huizenga; to act like he didn't have the ability to over-ride the medical staff is idiotic.

Armando Salguero - Dolphins reporter for YEARS:
The full story on why Brees isn't a Dolphin
quote:

Slated for free agency, Brees negotiated a new deal with the Chargers expecting to remain with his original team. But San Diego offered a cautious, five-year, $50 million deal that was heavily loaded with incentives. The contract made clear that San Diego had serious concerns about Brees and his shoulder. When the Chargers declined to improve their offer, Brees did two things:

He got a statement from renown surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, saying his shoulder was 100 percent and not any more likely to be reinjured than it ever was. The statement was released to the media.

quote:

Two teams seemed most eager to get Brees: Miami and New Orleans.

Saban, ever the competitor, wanted to get out front of the Saints so he and his wife flew to Alabama to meet Brees and his wife for dinner. Saban fell in love with Brees. The coach was certain Brees was his guy.

The two agreed that Brees, who had already scheduled a visit in New Orleans first, would come to South Florida afterward.

quote:

Everything seemed cool but the next day weirded Brees out. He was reportedly subjected to a six-hour physical that centered, of course, around his surgically repaired shoulder. To this day, I am not certain whether or not the Dolphins made Brees an offer. A good source close to Brees insisted Miami did, although it was a lowball offer.

Regardless, Brees saw his future in New Orleans. His agent Tom Condon went back to the Saints and beat them up some more and extracted a six-year, $60 million deal that included $10 million in guarantees the first year and another $12 million the second year in the form of an option. Brees signed the deal on March 14, 2006.

SI - What if special - Drew Brees
quote:

The Dolphins and second-year coach Nick Saban looked hard at Brees before trading a second-round pick for Culpepper instead. Brees’s agent, Tom Condon, said at the time that Miami was “not comfortable with the money in the first year. ... It wasn’t a very good fit and they had to move on.

Of course, it's not an offer if the offer isn't accepted. This lowball offer ties in quite well to Saban's dislike of the salary cap system used in the NFL as well.

Here's Jason Cole (who covered the Dolphins for the Miami Herald) take on the situation:
LINK
quote:

I really like Nick Saban, but he is not telling the truth about Drew Brees & #Dolphins. It was his call. Don't blame him for the call ...

Brees totally beat the odds on his recovery. But there is no question Saban made the call. He took info from 6 doctors. They didn't decide.

Funny part is Saban actually made a decent analysis of the odds of the physical comebacks. Odds just didn't play out that way. It happens

Big problem is that Saban takes it way too personally. His life turned out fine. He failed with #Dolphins, but he gave it a try.

Destiny

I got this reference immediately. Had just visited Arety's Angels about a week before the scandal dropped. Was about 20, and had ridden from Lower Alabama with some friends to Pensacola to look at tits and arse, as 18 was the age there, not 21.

A stripper there was sitting in my buddy's lap and said she had just had a baby. His dumb arse said "prove it", mocking her slightly. Well, she proved it...by skeeting him in the eye with titty milk after a hearty squeeze. It was funny.

As it was, I couldn't believe the geezer coach for Roll Tide was in there shortly after AND gave some broad the Roll Tide credit card....it was a DUMP.
