Hmm, interesting. I've never really thought about the proximity to Houston being a factor, which has, what about 7 million people?

Looked it up and found this article about the connection.

Yes, plus Miles left the program in great shape as far as recruiting goes.

Actually, he didn't. We were light on the lines in 2017. We lost to Troy, remember? We got blown out by Moo State. We're lucky we didn't suffer a precipitous drop from the end of the Miles era. We couldn't run Matt Canada's offense in full because he wanted to go up tempo and we didn't have offensive line and defensive line depth to do that.

It took Orgeron two years to build back up in the trenches, and we're probably still not there yet. Burrow, CEH and the scheme hid a couple of weak spots on the offensive line in 2019.

The reason LSU is a great job is they are top dog in their own state with a high school talent pool that is strong, and state media that looks the other way when Children’s Hospitals are robbed to pay off recruits.

Accusing your betters of cheating when you realize you can’t be competitive is the last phase of sports grief before acceptance.

Don’t worry AM. You’re almost there. It’ll feel much better once you accept LSU is and always will be better than you in all aspects of athletics. Pretending to be a military school and homoerotic rituals...well you’ll always have us there

If Leach self-destructs at State and we can get a majority of MS talent, look out. I would not have predicted that until the latest crap against Leach came out from his own AD (that relationship has to be trash now).

Has Leach ever really recruited well? I feel like his whole appeal is that he runs a system that helps them win games without needing a bunch of four and five stars. He's had Crabtree and some good but not great QBs.

I thought that's what made him a good hire. He can (if his system works well) at least compete with the top part of the division even though they'll all have much higher ranked classes every year.

If he maintains the status quo for recruiting at Mississippi State, he will have a lot better talent than he has had at his last stop - particularly when it comes to defense.

However, you are ultimately correct. The upside to his hiring is the potential to "punch above his weight" - so to speak, which is necessary in the SECW at programs that aren't Alabama, Auburn, or LSU.

Ed Orgeron is all about the team and their families and the fans.
Lane Kiffin is all about Lane Kiffin.

During his time at Washington State, Leach's top class was the Class of 2015 as he secured the nation's No. 42 class per 247Composite.

His best class at Texas Tech was the Class of 2006 with a national ranking of No. 28 and 4th in the Big 12.

Hard to compare being at Washington State and Texas Tech, but I wouldn't say he's knocked it out of the park.
