Orgeron got a second chance at coaching in the SEC, and that does not happen often

Trying to find the "next" Ed Orgeron is just as impossible of a task. The coach's accomplishments in 2019 were so incredible, so unique, it's hard to come up with someone to match them.

There's only a couple that come to mind but certainly one who sticks out: Lane Kiffin.
OK, it might be a stretch, but squint a little. Kiffin is not an exact replica of Orgeron, but the path is close enough.

Would you be absolutely shocked if Kiffin gets the Rebels back in championship contention? Hugh Freeze did it (with nefarious methods), but that's part of the reason Kiffin was hired.

Few are predicting Kiffin is going to win a national championship at Ole Miss, mostly because it's Ole Miss. The school claims three national titles (1959, 1960, 1962) awarded by the likes of the Billingsley Report and the Sagarin Ratings. The Rebels haven't won the SEC since 1963.

But few were saying Orgeron was going to win a title at LSU … until he did.

No, the Ed Orgeron story will probably never be duplicated.

Unless Lane Kiffin is running the copying machine.

Will there ever be another Ed Orgeron? Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin might be the closest facsimile

I'd go out on a limb and say its probably a little easier to win at LSU than Ole Miss.

The reason LSU is a great job is they are top dog in their own state with a high school talent pool that is strong
It took a coach like Saban to keep that talent and show that it could be done
Miles won a title but he is an avg coach
O knows the culture and state of la and that has been his best atttibute

Before Saban LSU couldn’t get out of its own way
It took that no nonsense kind of coach to elevate LSU

Yes, plus Miles left the program in great shape as far as recruiting goes.

Lane is going to have to tear down and rebuild from scratch.

That isnt true.

LSU had no real viable quarterback prospects and the talent coming out of LSU at the end of the Miles years took a nosedive vs what it was in 2011ish.

I wanted Lane over Yaw when we fired Miles. I think he’s going to make ole miss an Atlanta team every 3-4 years like Nutt was at Arkansas

LSU’s recruiting pool was still way better than Ole Miss’s

I think you could bump it to 4-5 years but that’s basically what freeze accomplished there. He was an insane 4th and 25 conversion away and lane probably knows bawll better than freeze. He also has a better staff assembled

Freeze also got the university in a lot of trouble. I don’t see Lane having enough of a leash to do that.

If Leach self-destructs at State and we can get a majority of MS talent, look out. I would not have predicted that until the latest crap against Leach came out from his own AD (that relationship has to be trash now).

Lol. I think "will there ever be another Brady/burrow combo" is a better question.

You’re assuming he’ll be able to get the same talent there. I just don’t see it. If Aggy can’t break through to the SECCG in this division no way in hell Ole Miss will

Yeah...........but LSU is trying to win the SEC, and Miles did not do well along either line.

Not really

OL was pretty thin, Dline depth was nonexistent, and we had more kickers than scholarship LBs at one point.

We were down to walkons at Dline at one point during the infamous Troy loss

E could take a nap during the game instead of call plays and we would still beat your overrated asses
