Kiffin is lazy and lacks the drive to be anything like Orgeron. Freshwater ain’t working circles around O, Saban, Jimbo and Gus in the West. I’ve never seen a guy get gifted so many high profile jobs even when his past should’ve been blinking in the background like a theater marquee.

Has there ever been a coach at any level, college or pro, any sport, that was absolutely terrible and ended up winning a championship? Coach O is the only one that comes to mind in any kind of football.

I'd go out on a limb and say its probably a little easier to win at LSU than Ole Miss.

It was sarcasm

I think he’s going to make ole miss an Atlanta team every 3-4 years
From the OP:
quote:
The school claims three national titles (1959, 1960, 1962) awarded by the likes of the Billingsley Report and the Sagarin Ratings.
I think this is somewhat unfair. They were awarded the FWAA NC in 1960 if I'm not wrong. That was a major selector. They still issue the Grantland Rice trophy to the National Champ. And, they select the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner, and the Outland Trophy winner

Chizik.
Auburn hired a 2-year Big 12 Head Coach with a 5-19 record. 2 years later he was a National Championship winning Coach in the SEC.

Little different situation there though.
Cam literally carried them there.
Outside of the 14-0 season, Chizik never won more than 8 games in any other year.

Goddamn. I actually didn’t know that

Most forget they had a solid, veteran OL. Good RB. And, really good front 7.
Cam was great, but it was a rather balanced team.
Burrow may have been more impactful to team success for LSU than Cam was for LSU. There is at least an argument for it. Cam could lean on his D more than Burrow could LSU. At least, that is my perception. Stats and actual assessment may prove me wrong.

2011 Auburn had the 53rd ranked scoring defense
2019 LSU had the 32nd ranked scoring defense
For whatever thats worth lol

And, they still do not have a single 10 win regular season to their credit. That is one of the amazing stats of all.

Lol... time is a bitch. I remember they didn't have a great secondary. But, I recall their front 7 being very stout and disruptive.
I may be giving them too much credit.
ETA: they had a top 10 rush defense and a 108 passing D. I guess it is a good thing teams were playing run heavy, power football and living off the play action pass. Well... except Gus and his whirly bird offense.

Agree but I think the only thing holding Kiffin back was his immaturity. It seems he’s turned the corner. I think he turns Ole Miss I to an sec contender and then gets an easier job at a higher profile CFB program.

A little? What you smoking? Didn't ED try to discourage Kiffin from taking the job at Ole Miss? Wonder why?

Miles left the LSU roster/two deep in very unbalanced shape. Solid to great skill players. Below average QB. More kickers than inside LBs. Substandard on the line of scrimmage.
Almost all of that has been fixed. LSU talent level is right back up to the top of the SEC up and down the roster.
Miles was very poorly served by Chavis. Lost several games due to third and ChAvis and Chavis prevent victory defense... plus really poor recruiting on the defensive side of the ball.

LSU’s recruiting pool was still way better than Ole Miss’s
If there were only one major university in the state of Mississippi, the pools would be similar.
Posted on 4/9/20 at 9:56 am to TigerinKorea
The population of Louisiana is almost double that of Mississippi. Combine that with Louisiana’s proximity and ties to the Houston metro areas and it’s not close as far as Louisiana having a much better talent pool than Mississippi.
Plus two blue blood programs in Alabama and auburn being one state over as opposed to two
