Academic issues. They turn out a ton of great players, the great majority of which cannot get in school. Thus the JuCos in Mississippi.

Alabama has a JuCo within driving distance of anywhere in the state. I think it was a Lurleen Wallace program to develope the JuCo system in Alabama.

Anyway, how do you play football in Alaska? Indoors?

Exactly. Ignores absolute numbers. There are more people in the Chicago metro area than Alabama and Mississippi combined. And that's not even the largest city above the Mason-Dixon line.
