I'm not scared of them. Tuberville always has a good game plan against those 2 schools. wait...

It wasn't just Tubs. These two teams love knocking each other off when the other is ranked. Tot did this in the 90s as well as LSU to us. An interesting thing is that the higher ranked team rarely wins this game historically, that has changed recently.

I repeat: GT scored more points on UGA than LSU did, and LSU was the 4th highest scoring offense in the SEC last year. What the LSU defense accomplished against GT in the bowl win was impressive.

That GT team was banged up to hell. They had 30+ injuries their starting QB had shoulder trouble, also they were on reduced scholarships. That said LSU finally did show up defensively against GT but that GT team was very depleted and just gutted it out against UGA.

you and a bunch of other Ole Piss fans remind me so much of my sister when she was 5, crying her eyes out because she was not receiving enough attention.

Why? I asked a legit question. Our d line should be one of the strongest parts of our team this year. I also called Bama fans out on thinking they have the west won already and agreed the LSU fans should be picking Florida and picked LSU as the defense that scared me the most. Sounds to me like you only half read what I wrote or either are trying to pick a fight. No I was not crying for attention for Ole Miss I just asked a simple question, and stated reasons to back up what I am asking. If the sec west teams want to overlook our defense that's fine by me. I just was under the impression that there are some very knowledgeable posters on this board and wanted opinions as to why they were not picking them.

Not buying this, or GT would not have been favored to beat both UGA and LSU.

You don't "gut out" 44 points on a team the #4 offense in the SEC can only put 38 on.

GT was down 10 scholies and was converting tight ends to play Guard and Right Tackle. At the end of the season Nezbit had major shoulder issues to the point he didn't get as much play time in the spring due to them letting it rest still.

They were good no lie but they were very banged up. CPJ is going to be a force to deal with this season and next when he gets some linemen on the team.

starlight - Yes, your d-line was one of your strongest parts, but Peria Jerry was more valuable than the rest of your line combined. The 2 best defenses will be Florida and Bama.

BTW, I'm new to this board. Sorry I couldnt find the quote button at first.

No kidding - his seat is on fiya.

No shite Billy.... I think most Dawg fans are giving him one more chance this year, considering injuries etc. from '08.... Another defensive meltdown like last year against the best teams in conference (& the nats) will have Dawg Nation howling Loud & Long.... Another showing like '08 & CMR is gonna hafta shitcan him (CMR's buddy or not) or UGA fans will be questioning CMR's competence.. Loyalty is a great attribute until it turns into stubborness & becomes detrimental to the program

With info like this, it's a wonder nearly everyone...and it was close to being unanimous...picked Georgia Tech to not only beat LSU, but beat the snot out of them.

Yeah what happened to the dogs D from the year earlier?? They looked strong especially at the end of the year and come out in 08 weak..

About ole miss big losses on the dline and oline. if your d can play like it did last year sure you will will the west, but key players are key for a reason..

Heart... Bottom line is you're DL just blew up the nats OL.. You guys were in their backfield disrupting the TO all nite... CPJ also got too cute at the start of the game with the passes etc.& once you guys smelled blood it was over with... Don't know who threw the switch on the Tigers D, but that was a dominating performance against a good(sometimes dominating) offense...
As a Dawg, nothing but props to LSU on that performance

LSU's run defense was not good, it had bad angles in many big games. Also it was not expected that LSU would do well against the option as it had torn up the vast majority of teams that faced it. The problem was LSU had a month to prepare and actually prepared well for it, couple that with Nezbit's in ability to throw deep due to shoulder injuries and it was just a bad day for GT. So the perception was that LSU would not show up and that GT was not as banged up as it was, that it would get healthy by that time.

The question mark on the defensive line is if Powe can step in and just disrupt about as well as Jerry. Tall order I realize, but he's got the talent to do it. That's all I've got to hang my hat on at this point, the season is the only way to prove any of it.

Don't sell our secondary short either, there was great improvement over the course of last season. We just need them to play average with the pass rush we will be able to get.

That being said Alabama and Florida's defenses will be better. LSU is a wildcard, but I do expect a very improved group out there. They could very well be better than Ole Miss. I have them lower right now, but I've got too little to run on right now.

DUKE... FWIW, looking forward to watching Jerry in a Falcons uniform. Truthfully didn't watch him much in college at Ole Miss, but all the reports here in Atlanta rave about the kid...

Jerry will be a great addition. He'll never be elite, he doesn't have the body to do it, but he's so explosive off the first step. Got so much pressure you could see flashes of Glen Dorsey.

I understand where the naysayers are coming from, I really do. If I wasn't an LSU fan, and hadn't seen with my own eyes and read what I read, I'd probably have my doubts, too.

But I can only maintain what I said before: that the Peach Bowl blowout shows what the same defensive players who flopped for most of 2008 can do with competent coaching. I credit Les for having the sense to hire a wishbone consultant in Larry Lacewell.

And every knowledgeable, unbiased observer who's seen LSU's defense in spring practice has had nothing but praise for it.

The Tigers are back.

I'll say this about our D if it's not ranked in the top 3 Les Miles will be looking for a new job very soon. I don't think LSU will stand for another retooling of the defense.

However, I do believe we will have all that fixed. We have as much talent as anyone in college football, not just the SEC and our new defensive coaches have proven what they are capable of. Why would they not excell at LSU? It's just a lot of rival fans wishful thinking.

LSU is way better in the secondary going into this year then I think people realize. They lost long time starters going into last year. They have experience this year to go along with the talent. Also it drove the fans nuts to see the dumb arse DCs decisions. It did take a damn elite football person to see they were retarded.

My pick is UF. I will admit I am not scared of Bama since we were in the game last year and I don't see them as a better team. I feel LSU has improved.

Agreed. I can't wait to see Jerry, I hope he plays some this year. He was one of the best DT's in the NCAA last year.

This is an entirely ignorant comment.
