I think he's always unfairly criticized, and it's funny because when he first took the job at MSU, I thought everyone was giving him too much credit.

Not many coaches are going to have better success at MSU, and if Mullen is fired, chances are they hire someone worse.

The players not giving a shite makes it hard to watch. 2011 was really hard.

Being completely honest, MSU is just not a prestigious athletic institution. Big recruits have way better options and there's just a general air of "bad" there that people get. Even when you guys ball out people still say you suck.

Mullen is a good coach for your program. What he's done is good for a subpar program. You aren't going to get like a Nick Saban in there who is fonna turn the school into a top team. Just wont happen. Stick with what is working.

I agree. LSU and Bama coming in to Mississippi, competing with Ole Miss...then the schedule. For a school that really cares about football and wants to do well, a very tough job.

But you didn't lose either. You won. What exactly do you expect at MSU? I'll go ahead and say your expectations are not reasonable.

16 individual SEC teams have failed to make bowls in the past 5 years. That resulted in:
- 10 immediate firings
- 2 first-year coaches that showed promise(Mullen, Petrino)
- 4 coaches were retained, 3 of which got worse and were fired the next year

Pinkel is the only coach to successfully make it back. And he's an extreme circumstance -- given the #2 national SOS, SEC adjustment, and an extreme amount of injuries to irreplaceable personnel. Everyone knew if they had remained even remotely healthy, they were an 8ish win bowl team last year.

All that to say -- if Mullen doesn't find a way to win 6 this year(I think it's an 80% chance that he won't), it's probably in our best interest to move on. It basically never gets better after that.

I might feel differently if we didn't have an absolute grand slam coach(for us) that wants to be at MSU with what could potentially be a narrowing window of opportunity to actually hire him, given the amount of success he's having at ULL and interest he's getting from elite schools around the country now.

Arkansas' recruiting is similar to ours if you look at our classes over the past 5 years.

Yea, real ringing endorsement with what we have for Sophomores and up.

Our best class in 6 years is the one Bielema put together in 2 months.

Let's remove some of the flawed "facts".

1- MSU pays it's head coach about the same as some of the more successful teams in the SEC and in the country. Per USA Today, CDM makes about the same has the HC for Mizzou, Uga and others...

2- It's not true that we pay our assistants poorly either. We are in line with a lot of top 25 teams and the SEC.. per USA Today.

3- Using Mizzou as an example. We have out recruited Mizzou for years. I'm not talking a little either.

When I look at that, I can not bring myself to say it's our location. I can not bring myself to say we need to pay more. I can not say we need better recruits in order to win and be ranked.

We should be winning NOW! We have the talent. What we are lacking has to fall squarely on coaching. What else could it be?

You guys would love to have Hud. Look what he has done with ULL. It turned them into championship team in no time. If you look at his roster the team is mostly made up of recruits from MS. This is quite impressive considering that has never happened before. I think he could win more games and if nothing else at least recruit well in the state.

I don't think it's unreasonable for State fans to want more. It seems like they have very reasonable expectations for the most part. Mullen did a nice job his first couple of years, but it seems as though his act has gone stale at State. Hudspeth would be a great hire IMO, and would at least bring some excitement and hope back to the program.

Dan Mullen does what State hired him to do: beat the crap out of 4 cupcake teams (or in the case of Bowling Green, simply, defeat) and win at least 2 SEC games to get them Bowl eligible. Anything after that seems to be a bonus.

Why their fanbase seems to settle for that (judging by the title of the thread, they do), is beyond comprehension. I would legitimately be livid and want an overhaul from top to bottom to get any sort of toleration of mediocrity scrubbed from the program.

I think the fact that MSU has had 0 official visitors this season is pretty telling. Mullen is heading for greener pastures. (Happy Valley)

When you know the team isn't competing at all in the second half, past accomplishments go out the window to me. It's HARD to watch us play that flat with the depth we now have.

True. Yes, sanctions prevented us from bringing in recruits on the first two home SEC weekends. But there is simply no excuse to have nothing on the books...

Yeah, I think Hud is now out of the picture. He is writing his own ticket.
