I think it’s interesting that Kirby chose the verbiage “Cox chose to withdraw”. Almost setting Cox up to be denied because he chose to move on. Which would would disqualify him based on #1 I posted. I’m sure he could fight it, but I believe that would drag on even if it was approved. It will be interesting to watch for sure.

Well... you would think lol i guess it depends on how it was filed. I heard recently and thought it was really interesting, is that Fields and Martell were different in that both institutions signed off on their waivers. Have no idea if that’s true though.

I guess that's my point.

UGA is signing off on all waivers (Ford, too).

He is all potential. nothing special at pass rusher (unless you intend to cover him up and call him an interior player on 3rd and long). Very poor at holding the edge against the run.

Dude. He was a true freshman last season at a postition where we had several guys above/beside him in the pecking order. Did you expect him to be an all american after 5 games?

enjoy watching him learn on the job.

he learend on the job last year. As a true freshman. To hink it will take "2+ years" for him to do anythign is just insane and not based on anything.

According to reports he was passed on the depth chart this spring. He did not see a starting job at Georgia anytime soon.

So, like one writer said he is now Florida's problem or Florida's good fortune.

Well I think it’s apples to oranges a bit because it’s Florida and not Ohio State. But definitely could be. Perhaps Smart is taking the long view of this and may be worried about perception if he fights transfers and is approving them all like you said., I.e recruiting.

I think that’s a dangerous precedent to set though.

The Florida Gators pulled off quite a coup in landing former five-star linebacker Brenton Cox from Georgia.

Not sure if this fella understands the concept of a "coup"

Honestly if he does it shows the NCAA is just ridiculous at this point. I want him to, obviously...but these kids are basically getting passes for anything now it seems.

He’s not a qb so I doubt they approve him. That seems to be the only position that gets these waivers

If he didn't use the racist claim, he should have. Worked for Fields...why wouldn't it work for Cox? He could claim bias if they didn't approve.

you must remember, your dealing with the NCAA... so you might as well just flip a coin. Rational logic doesn't apply in this case.

I get it. True freshman. Got starts due to injuries. Got a lot of playing time because we rotate a ton.
He will improve.

But be real. He is an edge player who sucks at holding the edge. And he isnt a special pass rusher. He has so long to go to even reach average in the SEC.

He got passed by 2 players this offseason due ability (Ojulari and Johnson) and potentially a 3rd (Nolan Smith) due to attitude/effort.

We disagree on principle. To many people expect "great/good" just because someone saw the field. This stuff isnt automatic. It takes work to separate onesself in the SEC. There is a reason why this is the best conference.

I look at Brenton Cox and I see Ray Drew with a mean streak. A tweener. My opinion... he will only excel if the scheme fits. And for Smart/Grantham, the scheme is dependent on the opponent. He isnt going to see the type if defensive scheme that he needs to have a chance. He'd be better at a Mizzou or Clemson.

the only thing grantham even really is above average at is OLBs. Cox will do very well at UF and is probably the best LB on their roster right now.

I agree. Cox is a good player. Grantham will use him well. He'll do well at UF if he gets his shite together....if he doesn't Grantham will boot him too.

Such a claim requires documentation, which fields had.

Mullen wouldn't have taken him as a transfer if he didn't fit the scheme...so not sure what you mean there.

Every transfer Mullen has taken has been used. He doesn't grab them as 3rd string players. He plans on them playing often.

GT has former UF DL 5* Antoneous Clayton, 4* UM WR Marquis Ezzard and 4* Michigan DB Miles Sims all transferred to GT over the summer.

Clayton is moving closer to his mother or something. Supposedly the best claim for waiver. He is also the player we need to play most.

Ezzard left UM due to the coaching change. Also a good reason.

Sims left to come back home but not due to Ill family or a coaching change. Just home sick. Probably not a great reason.

The fact that these guys haven’t heard definitively by now is a farce. It’s been months. Well into camp now and they are participating as if they will be allowed to play but coaches don’t know for sure.

The fact that Fields and Martell knew within a couple of weeks while all these other kids (especially Luke Ford) either got denied or still don’t know is ridiculous. Martell transferred because he was afraid of competition. Pure and simple. The fact they processed his applications and approved it for waiver is completely ridiculous and a kid like Luke Ford who transferred to be close to an ill family member....it’s a farce. The NCAA sucks and they need to refine the claim process. Ohio State and Miami they care about. Iowa or Illinois...not so much. They care about the school and the position of the transferee. Has nothing to do with their circumstances. It’s bullshite for all involved.

Martell's was the most ridiculous. Miami ain't exactly close to his hometown of Vegas.
