They had no one over there to catch it so it would not have mattered.

This

You have to give a returner a fair opportunity to catch the ball.

There was no returner there.

The ball has to actually hit the ground twice before the fair catch rule no longer applies.

Still no debate here. No fair catch was called, and there was nobody around the ball to call a fair catch.

if that guy on the end fair catched they would have thrown the flag.

he was in the vicinity. The bama player would have had to give him an opportunity.

It doesnt matter because he didnt throw his hand up.

But that is the difference in what Dabo was complaining happened to them against south carolina

Every day, huh? I'm not sure I buy that. It's one of those trick plays that a team might use once a decade because future opponents will be obsessively vigilant.

I'm not generally a fan of trick plays, but that one was so well timed and executed that it just reminded me of why I love football.

ILLEGAL ONSIDE KICK

Here you go. South Carolina had a player prepared to catch the ball. In tonight's game, Clemson did not.

Got a rules link on that?

Not disputing you, I have literally never heard of that one before. I have always been told one bounce.

Touching and Recovery of a Free Kick
ARTICLE 3. a. No Team A player may touch a free-kicked ball until after:
1. It touches a Team B player (Exception: Rules 6-1-4 and 6-5-1-b);
2. It breaks the plane of and remains beyond Team B’s restraining line
(Exception: Rule 6-4-1) (A.R. 2-12-5-I);
or
3. It touches any player, the ground, an official or anything beyond Team
B’s restraining line.

Thereafter, all players of Team A become eligible to touch, recover or catch
the kick.

When a Team B player makes a valid fair catch signal, the unimpeded
opportunity to catch a free or scrimmage kick continues if this player muffs
the kick and still has an opportunity to complete the catch. This protection
terminates when the kick touches the ground.
If the player subsequently
catches the kick, the ball is placed where he first touched it (A.R. 6-5-1-I-II).

It touched Marlon Humphrey, "any player".

I don't have a link, but it was out in place to protect players on those one-bounce high-hopper onside kicks that everyone used to run. If you'll notice, most onside kicks are squib type kicks now, rather than the high bouncing one hoppers.

Here is a link:

And on onside kicks, receiving teams can call for a fair catch if the ball is driven into the ground and bounces only once.

I never saw any Team B player make a fair catch signal whatsoever.

During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the
ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is
kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground
, strikes the
ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly
off the tee.

That was in response to that the ball has to hit twice. If they signal fair catch, you can't touch the ball until it hits the ground. They can muff it and recover with protection as long as the ball doesn't hit the ground.

Yeah, I saw him and yes, that's what he said. Very weak sauce. I'm embarrassed for him. There was no Clemson player anywhere near that ball. Excellent play by Alabama kickoff team. I don't think I've ever seen a better-executed onside kick, but it was definitely aided by Clemson not expecting it and being nowhere near the ball.

You have to call the fair catch and a Bama player can not hit a Clemson player before he has a chance to catch it. So dabo is grasping.
