There was a 3-2 game. I get SEC defense, but that's crazy. Why hasn't he been hired as a HC after State?

That game did have 2 pretty good defenses, but it also has 2 totally incompetent cluster fvck offenses.

I guess you could say 2-3 is owning Alabama. That is far better than most manage....

You're really going to post this when Croom's Mississippi State is one of the few SEC teams Shula actually had a winning record against?

Typical drive under Croom:
- get a delay of game
- run up the middle for 2 yards. 2-13
- call a timeout
- get a delay of game out of the time out
- run a play action pass. Incomplete.
- 3-18, run a draw for three yards
- punt on 4th and 15
- rinse and repeat
- get a delay of game

He wasn't experienced at the college level and was arrogant. He also bought in to all of the rhetoric about how bad the MSU team was that he inherited and how it would be a minor miracle to ever win there. He finally realized how important recruiting was in the end and left a very good class in place for Mullen but it was too little too late. I actually felt bad for the guy watching his last eggbowl. That was brutal.

He was a good dude but didn't have the energy or the offensive know how to get it done, and never would have. He did recruit some very good players on defense and they were very physical. Those guys punished bama players in that '07 game.

My guess is that he's too moral of a guy and not willing to break as many rules as the next guy.

He was 2-3 against Alabama. I wouldn't call that "owning."

The defense that year was stout, and had an abnormally high number of pick 6s and fumble returns for TDs.
We lost a game late in the year - I think Arkansas, and he blamed the defense for not scoring a touchdown.
In the bowl game against Central Florida, Wesley Carroll ignored the calls from the sideline to lead us to a winning drive and was put in the doghouse and ended up transferring to Florida International after leading an SEC team to an 8-5 record as a true freshman.

First of all, hiring Croom was the equivalent of self imposing sanctions on ourselves. Seriously. Damn you Larry Templeton, you cheap SOB!
Not to mention Templeton sold the rights to our "football" interlocking MSU logo to Nike and then proceeded to let Croom have his choice of uniforms and design.
And what does Croom choose? A very similar look to Bama's uniforms. But I digress.
Sure, Croom was a good man, all about character, doing things the right way and cleaning up the program..yadda yadda yadda.
But the most obvious thing about him was he had NO business coaching D1 football and in the SEC of all conferences.
All that first black head coach in the SEC nonsense is just that..nonsense.
Coaching in this league is about one thing..WINNING.
Thank God we hired Greg Byrne and he ended the nightmare that was the Croom era.
But as for the OP's question...No, Croom owned no one. Ellis Johnson's defense was responsible for the two wins over bama and the 8 wins in 2007.
