To repeat, LSU's AD did not sign off on this schedule. Either he is lying or Slive is. But JA was adamant that he had no say so whatsoever.

He could be lying to placate fans pissed off at the situation. Just saying it is a possibility, Slive could be lying and is trying to give the SEC teams which seem most likely to compete for the title an easier shot. I just feel like more AD's would have come out and been more vocal if that was the case.

Alahunter, LSU's JA, our AD, said he had no say so whatsoever in working out this schedule. As in none. He said it was presented to he & the rest of the AD's as a done deal.

All I've ever seen reported about his comments on scheduling is the following:

quote:

Alleva said 11 of the 14 SEC schools are in favor of retaining permanent opponents — including Florida, the Tigers’ permanent SEC East opponent. LSU has maintained in the past that Florida also wanted to eliminate their annual game.

“I don’t think it’s fair,” Alleva said. “I think people have voted in the best interests of their schools and not the league.”

If you can direct me to where he's on record about saying the AD's are given their schedules, and not done by them, as the SEC Commish infers, with his thanks for their work on them, I'd appreciate it.

Thing is, if LSU loses to Alabama or A&M, they still have 3 other quality opponents and will be in the NC game with possibly 2 loses. That's never happened before........has it?

"As we began working on the 2013 football schedule, it became apparent that the conference would need another year of the 'bridge' schedule to make everything work," SEC commissioner Mike Slive said. "I appreciate the SEC transition team and our athletics directors, who came together to put this schedule in place. We look forward to starting with our new scheduling rotation in 2014."

I did find this comment. I could see where it implies he had no input, but it really doesn't specify one way or the other.

Some of you have expressed dismay that other schools may benefit from a less challenging non-divisional schedule in 2013. Scheduling is a complex matter and, though I may not always agree with the outcome, I know the SEC office works diligently in every way to make the best decisions for the league and its members.

Is he talking about himself here? The best interest of the league to to continue the rivalry games.

He does contradict himself at times..

We don't know what SEC scheduling will look like from 2014 and beyond. LSU will always fight for what is best for LSU, but ultimately we are but one vote among 14 in determining what is best for the SEC

Notice that Bama fans are the ones that found direct quotes. LSU fans are making gratuitous assertions of fact without any back up.

This is to inform the LSU football program that, based upon recent developments, your rivalry application is being officially reviewed with the possibility of overturning its previous denial.

Working in your favor is your fanbase's absolutely Auburn-like levels of obsession over our football team. Not even Tennessee has exhibited as much vitriol and insanity as your fans have over the past two years, and the trend seems to be upward. Your showing is impressive, to say the least. No rivalry can be considered worthy of the name unless there is a good conspiracy theory involved somewhere, and we have not failed to notice that tin foil hats are springing up all across your state re: our recent and upcoming football schedules. We encourage you to continue this behavior as it reflects positively on your application and also provides Alabama fans with quality entertainment.

Working against you is your extremely poor all-time winning percentage against us. It might be difficult to elevate you to the status of "rival" when you have hardly ever managed to beat us. We are in receipt of your written statement about how games played prior to 2000 "should not count because they're old" and will take it under advisement. However, while we appreciate your views, we must let you know that those with history tend to take it more seriously than those without.

Again, we appreciate the intense interest you have shown and continue to show in the Alabama football program. Even if your application's previous denial should be upheld, which frankly it is likely to be, we encourage you to continue to obsess over things that are unlikely and cannot possibly be proven true while glossing over the fact that your team has fared poorly against us on the field. We find it amusing and can always use the laugh.

Thank you and Roll Tide!

If Alleva just bent over like that, then nobody at LSU should complain. I'm quite sure whoever posted that is mistaken.

Alabama was around the 6th or 7th best team in the nation last season. They'll be around that mark again this year. It's easy to load the schedule up with cup cakes, and then coach a team up for 1 or 2 big games. What they do is no different than what Boise State did during their heyday, the only difference is Alabama gets pushed over the top by the extreme media bias.

Um...right. So sorry if coming to this realization 50 years too late has ruined your innocence.
