Some kids mommy would demand for him to be fired first time he went off on a semi rant, much less full blown rant like we known him to do.

Skip wasn't exactly a teddy bear either. But, he wouldn't go white hot melt your face like Augie. His was more of a psychological warfare to see who could pass muster.

Augie had his obvious issues but I thought it was really cool of him to write Paul Mainieri a handwritten letter after LSU won the 2009 CWS.

I was bitterly disappointed when the PA failed to play "Sangria Wine" at some point during his last visit to Olsen. Would have been perfect for the bottom of the 5th.

I remember watching a stumblin’ Kevin Rumlin fall all over that hotel, as if you could embarrass Texas A&M any more than they already have themselves

What year and game was this? What was it that put him over the top?

It was a game where Daddy Aggie beat that Longhorn arse and embarrassed them.

Incorrect. It was following a Sunday game Texas dropped to then-No. 3 Nebraska, which resulted in them dropping the series. Texas would win their next 10 games straight and the Big 12 championship. This rant was during the 2006 season.

Funny enough, the next weekend series Texas played was against A&M, who they swept. That sweep against a&m was wins 3, 4 and 5 in an 8-game win streak that spanned over 3 seasons (Texas A&M has never even beat Texas 5 times in a row in their entire history), and the 3rd of 8 regular season Texas vs. Texas A&M series that Texas won all 8 of (2004-2011)

This is almost as funny as your name

When Cliff Gustafson retired, Texas went after Augie. Cliff and Augie were at the CWS together 11 times. Augie was genuine, both in is praise, and in his scorn. What you see is what you get. He walked the walk, 3 times at CSF and twice at Texas.

He knew the expectations, and he clearly articulated that to his team. His players could take it.

Some of you are a bunch of hypocrites, the kinda pussies who would have wilted under Augie. Like you've never had a drink before.

Growing up, nearly every coach I ever had was this way (at least at some point during the season) — now that I think about it, the ones who weren't ended up being the least successful.

Probably took it a bit too far there at the end, though.

I bet that one dude he was staring at felt like absolute dog shite. But I bet he didn't make that same mistake again.

I've seen that clip so many times. I see nothing wrong with it.

Shouldn’t have to. That’s shameful. Wise man once told me “if every other word is a cuss word then you are too stupid to think of anything else to say”. I guess stupid people can be successful baseball coaches.

If you want another real blast from the past, check out Garrido's predecessor at Fullerton, Larry Cochell. My goodness.
