Could SEC TV rights go to Facebook/Apple?

It pains me to say I'm watching Finebaum, but the ceo for Melt (sports marketing firm) is talking about a bunch of different financial topics. He says to watch out for Facebook and Apple, possibly even Amazon, to throw a bid into the SEC contract.
Is that a good thing? I guess I've never really thought about pure streaming of a thing as big as sec football.
It was an interesting discussion

Too many streaming services these days. Apple, Disney, HBO, Netlix, Amazon, and whole lot more on the way.

That's a pretty good question - I'm not sure those places are quite to the point of that, and the SEC probably isn't progressive enough to throw everything in that boat, but it is definitely something to watch out for.

Yes. Amazon could buy the SEC rights, and make bank as the lone streaming service. Add that to prime TV and offer a live option for $15 a month amd they will print money.

I’ve heard rumors Amazon is going to buy the Deadskins so maybe they will throw their ring into the college stuff as well.

Hopefully they drive up the price and bring those pricks at CBS to their knees.
One of the worst TV deals in history of sports.

I know they would have $15 a month more from me than they already get

It's bad. It's very bad. Look what happened to UFC by paywalling whole events, pre shows, and post shows. Taking away the very essence and soul of something is always mindnumbingly stupid. Fine way to hurt or kill a brand.

A lot of the rural south does not have access to broadband internet to be able to stream. Some SEC country baws and the old timers would be pissed. Half of Finebaums callers still use a flip phone. Will not happen anytime soon.

You can thank the crooks at the big telecom companies for that. When you shake down millions of Americans in the form of a “convenient bundle package” with internet, phone and cable and it costs $250-$300 month, people who are on a budget are going to get pissed and cut the cord.

Leave it on CBS good god you cordless fgts ruin everything

Not wanting to pay $200 monthly for shite I don’t watch isn’t being a f ag got.
Demanding that people pay for shite they don’t watch so that you can keep your football game on an archaic and obsolete mode of media delivery is being a f ag got, f ag got.

So essentially the people that can’t afford the big money advertised products?
Yeah, I doubt Mercedes and Aflac give 2 fricks about them.

It killed boxing too. Big time sports should always strive to stay on the networks.

Wait, you do realize that archaic medium (CBS) is free and will never be obsolete, right?

The guy on Finebaum said as much. $50m a year now is highway robbery. It will be north of $500m with new contract. Sec teams about to make more bank than they already do.
He also said Saban, even in his later years is worth 30-40% of the tv contract, so sure the SEC office us begging him to stay through negotiations

CBS is available digitally via antenna. While I dislike their 6 hour games I do like that I can pick them up over air.

This. Imagine if the streaming option goes out during a game.

Buy a digital antenna and don’t pay for CBS,Fox,ABC, or NBC. Why anyone would take it off local channels and put it on a god damn streaming service is beyond me
