Absolutely. Their schedule sets up nicely for them.

Coaching NFL is way harder than coaching college so i would say yes.

I really don't think he would make a very good college coach. One of Gruden's biggest downfalls as an NFL coach was the fact that he flat out refused to put up with a young QB. He isn't a teacher and he is notoriously impatient.

Everyone else has said the exact opposite of this.

Finished ahead of them in what way?

2010 SEC West standings:
1. Auburn
2. Arkansas
3. LSU
4. Alabama

This is fact that cannot be argued against. Also, I'm not saying Gruden would dominate, but if Petrino could manage slight success in a time where the SEC West has been the toughest it has ever been, then Gruden would probably be able to handle his own.

Who is everyone? I can't imagine why anyone would think Gruden is the type who loves developing young players. He made no secret of the fact that he hated it during his time in the NFL.

2010 was essentially a three way tie for second.

College football is as much about talent as it is coaching. That's why Saban was just "good" at Michigan State. He gets elite level talent LSU and Bama and he wins 10+ a year. Les Miles goes from good to elite after moving from Okie Lite to LSU. If Gruden is as good as a recruiter as many believe he will be, he will a ton of games and compete for SEC West championships.

You are on the money with the first part of your post, but I don't understand why everyone thinks Gruden is going to be a really good recruiter.

Nick Saban is not a great recruiter because he has a great TV personality and has a big-time name. Saban is a great recruiter, because he is a tireless worker who is relentless on the recruiting trail.

Can a guy who has never done any real recruiting have the energy, drive, and desire to put up with all the BS that is recruiting, be successful at a school that does not have a solid recruiting base?

He may be successful at recruiting, but he is hardly anslam dunk that some think he is going to be.

Gruden would be raped by LSU.

Bookmark this now so Arkansas can rub it in when Gruden beats us.

Oh wait

Um No...Bama had 3 SEC loses so they cannot even be argued for 2nd. LSU and Arkansas both had 2 loses but Arkansas owned the head to head. I'm not trying to tout a 2nd place finish in the west as some huge accomplishment, but the fact is Petrino is just a season removed from finishing ahead of the SEC elites. So my point is Gruden would probably be able to have success considering the talent he could bring in to Arkansas. We all know that was the big hurdle with Petrino. With Gruden, I don't think we would have that problem.

Yet, Gruden hasn't been involved in college athletics since 1991. So, we don't know if he could even actually recruit.

At first I was like

But then I was like, oh yeah successful NFL coaches don't go back to the college ranks.

No, Gruden would definitely would be able to recruit. He has the personality and magneticism to be a monster on the recruiting trail. It's his coaching that would be the problem. As Robot Santa said, Gruden's never been good at developing young players. You need to be able to do that to be successful in college.

I think the fact that kids see him every sunday and see him talking to NFL prospects every year means more to them than anything. I'm not to going to say I have any insight into what goes on in recruiting and how tough it is, but an NFL guy with that much clout among NFL heads...I don't see how he wouldn't land a good bit of NFL talent out of high school.

That's why I said that many believe he will be. There is no empirical evidence to support that he will be a great recruiter, but there is enough circumstantial evidence to believe that he should be.

Gruden would recruit like a Rock Star. I believe that BP is a better offensive coach than Gruden, and give the edge to Gruden on Defense. All of that said, Saban remains the King in the SEC until someone proves different. I believe that Gruden takes Miles.

It would be nice to find out, but I doubt that JG goes to Arkansas.

Do you mean pick a game off of him here and there or do you mean repeated dominance?
