This right here. I stopped listening before she turned on Trump. Her refusal to take up for the accusations against Charlie Kirk's widow sealed it for me. In fact, I now dismiss the views of anyone who casts shadows on a bereaved widow. I have only so many minutes in the day, I am not giving a second to someone who entertains Candace's nonsense.

It was tough to process when I realized at 45 or so that I was several years older than Tommy Lee Jones when he played Captain Call on lonesome dove.

The Madison is off to a good start. I don’t think it would be served at all being drawn out though. Does anyone know how long its supposed to go.

I lost my 15 year old dog this past fall. We have another dog but it hates me and constantly acts like I’m going to kill my wife and daughters at any moment. All that to say we have a two year old cat that’s pretty dang cool and I’ve realized my favorite pet at the moment is a cat. Not sure what to think about that. We have another older cat that causes nothing but problems and I kind an of hate it. But yeah, the younger car is pretty great and is one of the least burdensome animals I’ve ever owned. He provides some laughs and asks very little of us in return.

I will play. If a muslim regime took over my country and held the American people hostage for half a century, I would 100% be thankful for a foreign power coming in and weakening their hold.

I think Frazier would fall in that category.

Can you post your three favorite movies over the last decade, just so we can have a bearing on your taste? I am dumbfounded.

Yeah. The only thing I can think of is that there is some pretty intense scenes in there, but I don't see anything that would be harmful to a child. The child might get bored or not like it I guess, but that shouldn't warrant PG-13.
The only thing I could think of was the dead bodies of the other astronauts.

I don’t get all the “ great” reviews I see online. It was one of the worst movies I’ve seen in the last decade
Good grief. It is one thing to say you don't like it. I disagree, but it's fine if it isn't your thing. But when compared to the slop Hollywood has been dishing out over the last decade, it is hard for me to take this as a genuine statement and not some pursuit to be some kind of edge lord.

Well it sounds like they may develop another one.
I can see potential for a sequel here, but man, I hate that when something is good, it gets squeezed for $$$. It almost always ends up being a disappointment and spoils the original work somewhat.

re: How much time is appropriate to wait to start dating again after a spouse dies?
Posted by arktiger28 on 3/29/26 at 4:10 pm to Uga Alum
Any set number is arbitrary. It all depends. My brothers wife was dating in about 7 months. She’s in her late 40’s. The guy she started dating was an incredible man that lost his wife to cancer and finished raising his kids before worrying about dating. No way was I going to tell her to wait. Men like that are not growing on trees. Also, people that watch their spouse die of cancer seem to gain a good bit of closure. To me it’s really nobody’s business, especially if they are dating good people.

If “blessed are the peacemakers” is the standard, then escalating another war isn’t strength—it’s a failure to meet it.
If you are going to use scripture, at least apply it correctly. Blessed are the Peacemakers is addressing personal Christians and living out their role in that regard. Romans 13 says the government has been given the authority of the sword to punish evil-doers. I am perfectly okay with debating whether the government is wielding the sword well in this engagement. But at least make an argument from the Biblical framework we have been given, and not a verse you are ripping out of context.

I actually don't have a problem with this racial swap in and of itself. My only issue is that some may make the Potters out to be racist, which would be dumb as hell but also predictable for our day and time.

Posted by arktiger28 on 3/24/26 at 2:25 pm to mauser
I had a neighbor who had a loud motorcycle, and I hated it so much. I would normally be partial to the neighbor. But the way he stepped out in front of him was completely asinine and he deserved at list the first punch he got.

I hate to be that guy, but the movie left so much stuff out from the book. The crew I went with all read it first and said the same thing. It should've maybe been two movies.
To each his own, but I could not disagree more. The last thing this thing needed was to be a bloated two-part money squeezer. I love the fact that it was a long but tight single movie. The book still exists for those who want the deeper commentary. This movie was exactly what it needed to be. It completely honored the source material while trimming all it could for non-book readers just wanting a fun watch. It's dang near perfect as it stands.

I completely get it why it wasn't needed to waste screen time on the tech involved. It was just amusing to me that what would normally be a giant watershed moment is handled almost as if a foregone conclusion with respect to the larger story.
To me, I think it's best to view this movie on its own while viewing the full book as footnotes that explain the deeper science. If someone cares deeply about science, they can listen to one of the best audiobooks ever. It's readily available. For example, the language barrier was explained deeply in the book, but to put much of that in the movie would have made it terrible.

I was shocked at how empty our local theater was. I’m hoping it develops some legs because it needs to be seen on the big screen.

Yeah, the whole language thing took a while to work out in the book and it made a good bit of sense. It would be impossible to really explain it well in a movie.
