Agree. Until then, we'll just have to talk trash and keep beating LSU.

ou are on the money with the first part of your post, but I don't understand why everyone thinks Gruden is going to be a really good recruiter. Nick Saban is not a great recruiter because he has a great TV personality and has a big-time name. Saban is a great recruiter, because he is a tireless worker who is relentless on the recruiting trail. Can a guy who has never done any real recruiting have the energy, drive, and desire to put up with all the BS that is recruiting, be successful at a school that does not have a solid recruiting base? He may be successful at recruiting, but he is hardly anslam dunk that some think he is going to be.
That's why I said that many believe he will be. There is no empirical evidence to support that he will be a great recruiter, but there is enough circumstantial evidence to believe that he should be.

Everything right now points to Gruden. I'll go with it.

College football is as much about talent as it is coaching. That's why Saban was just "good" at Michigan State. He gets elite level talent LSU and Bama and he wins 10+ a year. Les Miles goes from good to elite after moving from Okie Lite to LSU.
If Gruden is as good as a recruiter as many believe he will be, he will a ton of games and compete for SEC West championships.

Wait so you want to address needs and you want LSU to get a D-lineman and the 1st Arkansas poster wants a Wide Out? I love it.
That would be halfway intelligent if the Hogs weren't losing their top three WR's to graduation this year and likely to lose Cobi Hamilton the year after that.
You may or may not be aware, but you can only keep these college kids in school for so long. That constant turnover thing is part of recruiting.

I need to check the Baton Rouge Daily advocate and see if they have 13 Arky and 2 LSU players on their list...
Well, I checked Phil Steele's preseason list and he has on the two-deep:
11 Hogs
4 LSU Tigers
He's from Ohio I think.

The dude reminds me of a young Randy Moss.
Minus the attitude. Everything I've read on him is that DGB is great young man.Randy Moss talent with a good attitude...sky is the limit.

But, but, but....Arkansas really does have a shot at DGB last I heard.

Sorry broskie but I gotta call you out here. You're the one who wants to rate Poo Richardson over Knile Davis, despite the fact Davis had nearly twice as many rushing yards and better YPC average than Richardson did last year. If what really matters is what someone has done, then Davis has to get the nod over Richardson. You can't rate Richardson over Davis based on potential, then say Gragg can't be second team preseason all-sec.
Tyler Wilson is sort of in the same situation. He only had one real opportunity which was against Auburn. I think Phil Steele as well as this list has him 2nd team behind Murray.
I think it's mostly prediction.

Preseason All-SEC

Preseason All-SEC Team
Looks like this list has Bama dominating the defensive side while the Hogs and Georgia have a lot of offensive picks.
Odd that Lattimore isn't first team. Would have liked to see Chris Gragg on the second team at TE, because I see him being a beast this year as a replacement for D.J.

Good returner or not, you don't put a lockdown corner on returns nowadays...
Yeah, never worked out for Deion Sanders, the greatest lockdown corner in the history of the game.
And don't throw the "nowadays" word back at me. Deion played in the 90's. It ain't ancient history.

Patrick Peterson
A lock-down, cover corner that can take away one side of the field makes it easier across the board. Plus, the guy is the best return man in the draft.

re: So Childs/Adams/Cobi 11 > Bowe/Davis/Doucet 06, huh?
Posted by BaconTheSaddleAgain on 4/14/11 at 10:44 pm
When it's all said and done, I think Cobi will be the best one of the bunch. He's the most athletic, fastest in straightline speed, has the best hops, and probably makes the difficult catch easier (though Childs is very good at that).
Cobi is 1st round talent. Childs is first talent if he bounces back from the injury. I would say that Joe is 3rd to 5th round talent and Wright 5th to 7th round talent.

LSU Baseball getting the shaft from their AD?

LSU Baseball: Just "Plane" Bad
Pretty sure the article was written tongue in cheek, but someone claiming to be Herb Vincent, associate AD of LSU felt the need to respond.

re: Arkansas will have a Top 3 defense
Posted by BaconTheSaddleAgain on 4/5/11 at 9:20 pm
Arkansas, LSU, and Bama all could have improved defenses from last year- and all three were pretty good last year. Bama and LSU's were extremely good last year.
Arkansas will be more athletic and more experienced. They will be better. Arkansas, LSU, and Bama all could have NC type of teams, but Arkansas draws the short straw by having to play at LSU and Bama next year.

re: Arky basketball fans....question about Rob Evans...
Posted by BaconTheSaddleAgain on 3/31/11 at 2:34 pm
If you listen to the players, they love Evans. They have a lot of respect for him. The players have said the biggest problem is that Pel wouldn't let Evans do anything. Evans was the most accomplished coach on that staff, but was basically told to keep his mouth shut.
We would have been a lot more successful IMO if Evans would have had more say so in how things were run.
Nolan Richardson once said that Rob Evans is the only coach that he ever feared.

Because of it being Anderson? Would they have had as big of a deal for Buzz Williams or somebody else? Did Pel and Heath have big press conferences.
This was more of a pep rally and a "welcome home" party for Anderson.

Unrelated post as mine usually are but I enjoyed the Mike Anderson quote something to the effect of "If you see me and a bear get in a fight, you better help the damn bear." I'm excited about Arkansas BB for the first time in a long time as it seems we've hired the basketball equivalent of Davey Crockett.
My favorite line was in reference to his full court press, "we're gonna pick 'em up when they get off the damn bus."
