Pass was tipped.

I don’t think that hit “should” be targeting. Now, how the rule has been called all season, it needed to be called.
That shows the biggest issue with the rule as it is. That was a good tackle. If they want the rule to dictate any forcible contact to the head needs to be targeting, they need to start penalizing offensive players as well for lowering their heads when they go into contact. Many of the targeting calls this year were initiated by the offensive player.
This play, it was a good form tackle, defender was pretty low, offensive guy just was low as well. Sometimes helmets are going to collide and it can’t be a defensive penalty just because it happens. We just can’t have situations where it gets called all year in similar situations and then not in such a big game.

Yeah holding calls are ambiguous enough...where just a few carefully called penalties here and there can make big outcomes....let alone a war crime like that.
Maybe it's just time to just take refs out of the equation and let players go all out with no rules, no commercials. 60 mins of primetime foot'ball with sponsor billboards in the corners like our European friends with no stoppages.

Parallel with chest or slightly ahead. Not distinct enough to make that call.
When in question, it is a foul

You need 1 of the first 4 points for it to be targeting on a defenseless player.
Note 1. 3rd * is the indicator.

Replay official was Brian Brown. Must have been bribed. No official is that retarded.

It don’t matter is the pass is tipped targeting is fricking targeting!! You’re thinking of pass interference.

Defender leads with helmet and hits a defenseless receiver in the head. Doesn’t get more obvious than this.

That’s not how that works

That's targeting, textbook example.

Looks like a form tackle. Head is up, arms wrapped up, no launch. It’s exactly how they teach you to tackle in pee wee

I mean it was except for the crown being driven into the name plate above the facemask......

Eugene, OR 2006 there was a replay official who was either a full on homer or completely incompetent.
Whichever he was the guy was out of a job AFTER turning a game around for the home team.

What was Taafe supposed to do differently there? Drop kick the guy in the chest? It probably was “targeting” by the letter but I’m not going to lose sleep over a picture perfect form tackle. I’m glad it upsets all the Texas haters. We own the refs, don’t forget it.

The crown is the top of the helmet, champ.

No, the crown is a circle about 2.5 inches above the face mask opening in the shape of a halo, the picture clearly shows he used the front of the crown.
Posted on 1/2/25 at 9:50 am to lewis and herschel
Nope. His head was up. They’re not gonna make that call in that situation. If his head was down, sure. That’s not distinct enough.
