Link? You state as fact that a person soliciting money for a players signature results in ineligibility. Prove it.

I confirm that you killed JFK. Should you go to prison just in case it's true?

there was a discussion on it yesterday

someone posted and linked NCAA rules RE: asking for money and eligibility

I was confused on this point too - esp because I had heard Joe Schad (sp?) say just asking for money doesn't make you ineligible

at the end of the day whether something happens this year or next i am surprised the upper crust at Auburn is allowing chizik to play him seems like a hell of a gamble for the school..

Why is it a gamble?? either they will have to give up 10 wins or 12......not much difference...

I think the gamble is more of the extent of the punishment in the future

Ding Ding Ding

Schools typically immediately sit players if their status is called into question - even after this stuff has gone public Auburn has gone the opposite route

It said it is a violation. It did not mention a punishment. No one has put 2 and 2 together from what I have seen. Probably since solicitation only has NEVER resulted in being ruled ineligible.

wonder who the alleged guy is that cam called and told this to? This info would end speculation for sure..

According to a separate ESPN report, Cam Newton phoned another recruiter and apologized for not going to Mississippi State, saying that his father had committed him to Auburn because, “the money was too much.” If any part of that beyond the “call to apologize” is true, Newton and Auburn could see this season, and many seasons to come, go up in flames.

The NCAA spokesperson confirmed it yesterday and even Sportscenter has quoted the NCAA bylaws this morning. Confirmation of this fact has been all over the place since yesterday.

How about you prove that it doesn't make someone ineligible?

True. Auburn is average without Newton. Pretty pathetic.

It's fricking mind boggling to me. There was just no need for this

Chizik certainly feels pressure to succeed but to risk everything in his second year (when he just got there and is building)?

Why would you do that?

I have seen all this.

1. According to an expert on the NCAA, simple solicitation has never resulted in a player being ruled ineligible.

2. The NCAA may change course and rule a player (Cam) ineligible for the first time ever. Would I be shocked, no, but it is FAR FAR from a given.

3. People here spout it off as a fact that soliciation = ineligible. That is ignorant and shows the intellect of this board in general in this particular case.

You aubie fans really got your head way up your arse on this one. With all the shite hitting the fan daily, do you think there is nothing too all this? Really? Any reasonable person without a horse in this race would tell you he may not be guilty of everything but the evidence is too compelling to think he is innocent either. His character is for shite. Chizik should have the sack to do what needs to be done and kick him off the team. We had a QB like him a few years ago that now plays at jacksonville state. And his misdeeds weren't nearly as bad as whats happening here. Kicking perriloux off the team set our program back easily a couple years, but I wouldn't have his sorry arse back for shite. Apparently character doesent mean much on the plains. Win at all costs huh? If you keep your nose clean shite like this dont happen.

It would not be the first time ever. You are a total fool if you think that. Why have all these teams been put on probation for playing ineligible players if the NCAA didn't rule them ineligible?

Thayer Evans: Joe, here's what NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn told me yesterday in an e-mail, “The solicitation of cash or benefits by a prospective student-athlete or another individual on his or her behalf is not allowed under NCAA rules.”

Friday November 12, 2010 1:04 Thayer Evans
1:04 Steve Eubanks: Good question Joe. If Cam knew nothing of his father's actions, and no money changed hands between any party, it will be interesting to see how the NCAA handles it -- son guilty for the sins of the father. But if he knew anything or was involved in any way, he's toast.
