Comparing Saban to Payton is insanity

1st of all college is only 50% actually football at BEST. The other 50% is being a used car salesman AKA recruiting.
2nd, Saban just lets his coordinators do the Xs and Os while he acts as CEO. While there is merit in that, Payton takes it to another level.
Payton designs plays on a weekly basis that didn’t exist in the football world the previous week, such as running a play with 3 QBs or a play with no QB, no RB for some real insanity.
This is possible because Payton doesn’t have to spend time on recruiting. He can devote 100% of his time to football.
Finally it’s Sabans conservative nature that makes him a poor fit for the highest level. You have to score every possession in the NFL. Teams that don’t aim for that fail spectacularly.
The whole point of this thread is that being a good football coach is not required to win in CFB. You just have to be an elite recruiter and hire good coordinators without interfering with them.

Ok so why is Lovie Smith failing at Illinois?

Payton has had a top 3 NFL QB for 12 straight years. Wonder how great he'd be if Brees left after the 2nd year?
He was also under .500 3 straight years in a row from 2014-2016... Saban don't do that.
Although I have no clue why we're having this argument.

Hey, it was just a goofy thought on a boring morning of deer hunting.
I could think differently when I wake up tomorrow

Creates thread stating comparing the two is insane, then promptly compares the two.

Because he’s a poor football coach who is too conservative for modern football.
Very bad at designing plays at every level.

He was 12 points away from being a Super Bowl winning coach.

Did he act as CEO and have others do the X's and O's for him while he was a very good DC in the NFL?

one has one championship they other has 6.
Are you saying recruiting isn't part of college football?
Pretty damned stupid if you are

No? Because he was a DC then and not a HC?
You’re statement has no point. Right now, he’s not an Xs and Os guy. Him being one in the past has no relevance due to how much football has changed since then.

No, but that great recruiters often aren’t great game day coaches which is a required element of the NFL.
You’re statement doesn’t make any sense.

Because it (sports, especially football) isn't a priority at the University. Plus kids don't want to come to Chambana. And last, we recruit thugs from Chicago who get in trouble down here and end up leaving.

Because he’s a shitty salesman compared to Saban.

Everyone is. Saban would not be as successful getting kids to come to central Illinios campus is nice and this is a great area, but not for kids who want to play football. Look at basketball, it's dying too at U of I.

Payton did that with a QB that Saban passed on to sign Dante Culpepper.
