The NCAA announced late Monday that it was removing several championship events from the state of North Carolina because of the controversial HB2 law (“Bathroom Bill”). One of those events, the first and second rounds of the next men’s NCAA Tournament scheduled for Greensboro, N.C., will be awarded somewhere else.

Columbia’s Colonial Life Arena is a possibility.

“Columbia has made it known that it would be willing to host the first two rounds in 2017 or 2018, when Charlotte is scheduled to host,” said Ron Morris, the coordinator of the city’s bid to host a men’s regional, in an email.

There are two drawbacks if USC wins a bid. If the Gamecocks men advance to the NCAA Tournament in a year CLA hosts a regional, they couldn’t play on their home floor. Despite that, Morris said coach Frank Martin supports the bid.

Also, USC’s women’s team wouldn’t be able to play at CLA during the NCAA Tournament.

This would be awesome, and it seems like the natural choice.

I'd rather have the flag back on statehouse grounds tbh.

Ugh.

It was painful watching that arena go unused for so many years of NCAA Tournaments because of that flag. It would be a nice weekend of tourism for this city to be able to host.

Live in south carolina and they won't come because there is a flag on the statehouse grounds.

Move to north carolina and they won't come because the governor refuses to let men into the women's restroom.

The NCAA is a complete joke.

ETA: I definitely support the tournament being held in Columbia but states should not be subjected to the nazi like steel boot of the NCAA to get the tournament.

Of course it is. But I'm not going to complain if Columbia can actually benefit from this....kinda like Pelicans fans and the All-Star game.

I swear to God, if they offered to come to my municipality instead of NC, I would want us to turn them down.

I support. CLA is a first-rate venue and needs to be used more often for post-season basketball. Hope it happens for y'all.

Would be cool. At least then South Carolina could see what an NCAA tournament team looked like.

Kinda dumb to post an ECU logo in the "burn" considering that Pirates haven't been to the dance since the early 90s.

States are free to make whatever laws they want, but they aren't free from the consequences of those actions.

Excited for game this weekend. Been waiting for a South Carolina person to start a thread. Seems like y'all are coming out of hiding after Saturday's game.

That is fitting we have one of the largest and best arenas in the southeast and definitely the SEC.

I'm torn.

My first thought is to side with the state of NC and turn down the NCAA ... but then I remember what a bunch of insufferable pricks the self-aggrandizing ACC fricktards are up there and I say frick'em, it's their turn to hold-out for the cause.

frick the NCAA though. frick'em royaly with a broken glass coated A&M sized arse dildo that's got a razor blade super glued edge up on the end. I wouldn't piss on the NCAA if their guts were on fire. The NCAA is an evil institution.
