I still remember it was McAfee that cost us a shot at the 2007 National Title.
That's why I don't watch or listen to anything with him on it.

McAfee is responsible for some of the most annoying and some of the most entertaining moments I can remember on Gameday. I get why people don’t like him but personally he’s a net positive for me
Not sure how people watch his show though. He is the definition of a “small dose” character

It's horrible.
I thought Desmond Howard was insufferable until they brought on WWE ringside announcer and uber-douche Pat Macafee.
It's completely unwatchable.

Yeah, I don't personally love or hate McAfee as I don't really watch anymore, but I completely understand why he's there. He brings an energy that hasn't been on that set since 2004.
I know he rubs people the wrong way, but part of getting older is admitting things aren't "for us" anymore

I don’t watch much anymore but it’s not because of McAfee. I don’t love his schtick but it’s whatever. The show to me fell off when it went from 2 to 3 hours. 2 hours was nice because there wasn’t as much fluff. Maybe one sad story but mostly some sort of brief analysis on the big games. That extra hour provided way too much wiggle room so now they fill it with fluff and whatever that girl is supposed to bring etc. The fluffy extra hour tainted the other 2 so now the whole show is just meh.
Psychologically speaking it also simply used to provide more insight and value back before boards like this one and insider info and all were so common as they are now. I guarantee you I know more about Georgia’s roster, style, scheme, etc than any of them do because I keep up with it year round. I couldn’t do that as easily in 2005 or whatever but I can now so the show itself is less useful

Interesting.
A lot of people last year and the year before loved McAfee but now say his schtick has worn out.
How did these same people not see this kind of routine would lead to this?

I remember when GameDay was must watch for me start to finish. Never should have gone from 2 to 3 hours. I can't remember the last time I actually watched, 3-4 years probably...anything of consequence and the clip will be available to view soon after.
Herbie's crocodile tears over George Floyd was probably the end for me. I can take it or leave it now...usually leave it. May have something to do with the game itself...while still a big fan, the NIL/portal crap has my interest on a slow, but unmistakable, downward trajectory.

I don't really get the McAfee hate, his personality can be a bit bold but his role is to play to the crowd and lighten things up. Without him, that panel gets geriatric very quickly. Here are some of the issues facing Gameday.
- 3 hours is way too long, even 20 years ago it would've been too long. We're at a stage where all the information we could ever need is right at our fingertips and could get almost instantly. People tune in because it's an "event" and "tradition" when waking up on Saturday mornings, no need to water it down with so much filler. Talk about the big games, have a couple of interviews, tell us about the town you're in, crack some jokes, and make your picks.
- Speaking of tradition and the feeling of it being an event, that feeling is basically lost now. You have 3-4 pregame shows on TV and YouTube you can find pregame shows for your specific team or niche (gambling). Nostalgia can only carry a show so far and at this point, it's pretty gross to keep letting Corso up there, it feels sad. Saban brings a new level to the show but there isn't too much else going on. Desmond has been meh, Pat is a hype guy, and Kirk well everyone knows Kirk now.
- Once you've been to Gameday, you really don't care to ever go back. I went twice as a student and the second time I don't think we even stayed for more than an hour. So when they keep visiting the same locations all the time, you're not really getting that energy from the crowd. It's always more fun when they're highlighting the success of a team out of nowhere or bringing attention to a rivalry that normally gets passed over by the masses. They don't really use the uniqueness of college football like they should.
Tomorrow I plan on flipping between the Fox kick-off show and Gameday, simply because what else am I going to do while sipping my coffee? The product can be better but I still think it's fine. Again I don't get the McAfee hate so I guess it's not as bad for me but I guess the good thing going for the show is you always know what you're going to get.
