I hate to hear that, he’s a great kid and has a bright future ahead of him. Prayers up.

Man that's sad. Hate it for the guy. Hell of a player and I've never heard a bad thing about him off the field.
Luckily, nothing has happened while he played without knowing this.

Is the fusion in his cervical vertebrae? Or do we know? That certainly is a dangerous condition if that's the case.

"Congenital fusion" in his neck/spine. Doctors are very concerned.

More info
quote:

Ross suffered what the team thought was a stinger during a scrimmage on the final practice session before the coronavirus shutdown ended spring workouts. The next day, team doctors said X-rays showed the issue, which Swinney said Ross has had since birth without being aware of it.

Ross will fly to Pittsburgh on Thursday and undergo surgery on Friday with Dr. David Okonkwo, a leading neuroscientist, according to Swinney.

Swinney said Ross is in good spirits and physically fine, but that the injury is a significant concern if he were to play football.

"He feels perfectly fine," Swinney said, "but doctors know he's at risk."

Swinney said Okonkwo is "optimistic" that Ross will be able to get back to football at some point, but Swinney said he is unaware of any player who's undergone surgery for this issue and returned previously.

He’s from Alabama and is a big piece on a CFP team. I don’t see how this isn’t relevant

That game is probably why Smith went undrafted tbh.

That was Savion Smith. The majority of Clemson's yards came against him that night. He gave up other big plays too, in addition to that like 75 yard TD or whatever it was.

He was "injured" on that play. Clemson only managed 1 more TD after he left, but a good bit of that could be going conservative with a big lead.

It is where 2 of his vertebrae are fused together as one. There can be significant instability in his spinal column. In his case, he was born this way (congenital).

If he's hit in just the right (or wrong depending on your grammar preference) location with force, it's a high risk of catastrophic injury.

I hate that for Ross. He's a hell of a football player.

I hope he can return next year.

So this just showed up in an X-ray?? Doesn’t make sense since it was there since birth

I don't think I've ever had my spine x-ray'd and I have kids older than Ross.

Hope I never need too either.

If anyone needs a little brain surgery (with emphasis on little) it's Dabo.
