I understand your laughter. 5 coaches and 76 years...LSU only won 6 games.

Must be some other incentive for any kid to pick Alabama over a team that could only win 6 times in those 76 years. There has to be something else you can use as an excuse other than LSU just doesn't have the chest...am I right?

Yeah, but LSU wins in spite of its coach. Hell LSU won a national championship with les miles. Alabama is only as good as the coach.
Then why did LSU go from sometime in the 1950s till Nick Saban without a national championship?

But in Clemson, Dabo's going to have statues, buildings, roads, children, pets, shopping centers, schools, brands of food named after him..
I don't want Dabo, but Alabama literally builds a statue of every NC winning football coach and has a street named after ever NC winning coach.

Bama just paid Avery Johnson a lump sum of 5.5 million to stop coaching the basketball team. The buyout won't matter. I really don't see any reason for Dabo to leave Clemson though, unless he just wants to be the coach at Bama one day.

Though I moved from Alabama when I was a young teen, my family is from Alabama, and I lived there long enough there is still a strong desire to someday go "back home". Swinney is pretty quick to wax nostalgic about being from Alabama and playing at Alabama, so I'm pretty sure he feels the same way. He may not return if he gets the call, but in his own words, you never say never.

Saban’s paycheck looks small now. This is a hell of a deal.
Saban still makes more per year from what I understand. State law in Alabama does not allow him to have a contract longer than 7 years.

Alabama's future doesn't hinge or depend on whether Dabo comes back to coach here. There will be other options and there will be a treasure trove of toys for that coach to use when Saban retires.

quote:Depends on how and why Saban leaves. If Emmert is gone and Saban jumps ship then Bama would be in a mess and no good coach is going to want to follow with the expectations of Bama fans and no ncaa help. Bama would end up gambling on someone or a fallen off the map coach.

Even if Saban just leaves and nothing else expectations would be too high for alot of bigger coaches to look at without a ton of guaranteed money.

Whoever coaches here post Saban is going to be paid very well. We won't be hiring our DL coach I can assure you of that.

yeah. That didn't work out so great last time we went from a national title winning coach to hiring the defensive line coach. Or maybe Mike Sr coached linebackers. I know he was D.C. Anyhow, hold the faxes.

There aren't too many big name coaches out there at the moment that are proven enough to guarantee alot of money to. Dabo and Urban (who I wouldn't trust to stay anywhere). Maybe it will be different when Saban leaves but right now it's thin.

quote:that's the kind of thing you say before a faceplant season. Also, Clemson had the benefit of being able to practice for Alabama the whole second half of the season and before the semis, as evidenced by the words of your own players that they were repping bama during the leadup to Notre Dame.
Last time I checked the Clemson offense put up 44 on Bama and that offense returns virtually intact this year - we’ll be just fine.

My prediction. Saban retires, Dabo stays. The coach who follows Saban wins 8 or 9 a year and leaves under pressure after a few years then Dabo will leave us for Bama. Just my opinion

I know one thing---Bama's AD has his list and updates on the regualar. You saw how quick he hired Oats? No way he was researching candidates after he fired Avery Johnson. He already had his list.
Bama would have to pay more for Dabo and I'm not sure that's prudent. Get back to me in ten years and we'll see if he can maintain this level of success. H3ll, Jeff Scott might by the next HC at Bama---you can't predict the future.

Good points and not going to argue with you. Let me rephrase it. I would not be surprised if,big if, it plays out that way in the future.
