Because they were in Gainesville. Spurrier never made LSU wear purple in BR. That Wiki article that says he forced LSU to wear purple in 99 is incorrect. He was going to try to do that, but he was informed that the SEC rule superceded the NCAA rule. LSU wore gold in Gainesville in 1998 and purple in Gainesville in 2000.

I don't give a flying frick at a rolling doughnut what color jersey LSU wears, just hope/pray/sacrificed a child that we can some how find a way to beat them.

So LSU is wearing their white jerseys, because in the SEC the home team gets to chose. Apparently Chizik hasn't got that figured out quite yet, I would love for Auburn to show up in their away whites as well. That would be classic, and if losing to Kentucky at home wasn't an Auburn fan's "oh shite this guy is really our coach" moment, showing up in the wrong colored jerseys would be.
